Responsibilities

The Insurance Follow Up Rep is responsible for corresponding with both commercial and government health insurance payers to address and resolve outstanding insurance balances and non-coding denials. Activities include follow-up via phone, online, fax, and written correspondence, reviewing remittance advices, researching denial reasons, and resolving issues through appeals.

  • Follow-up with insurance payers to research and resolve unpaid accounts; make necessary corrections in the system.
  • Interpret and ensure correct payment from Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and remittance advices.
  • Communicate effectively to explain outstanding balances, denials, or underpayments.
  • Resubmit claims when needed, via paper or electronic methods.
  • Identify trends and issues, and train staff accordingly.
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately.
  • Organize accounts by denial type or payer for efficient resolution.
  • Document all actions in the billing system accurately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies, standards, and practices.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance, codes, and payer contracts.
  • Understanding of regulatory/reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with automated systems related to the function.
  • Ability to interpret insurance reimbursement terms and remittance advice.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Ability to stay updated on industry trends and regulations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Effective prioritization and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in English communication.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Post-high school training in medical billing or related field (preferred)
  • Two years revenue cycle or related experience (preferred)
Pay Range

$16.26 - $22.36 /hour
