Description

Position Summary

MISTRAS Group is seeking an Insulation Technician to support Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) initiatives at the Kuparuk River Unit on Alaska’s North Slope.

The Insulation Technician provides hands‑on labor support for CUI activities while working closely with CUI Specialists and Scaffold/Line Lift Technicians. This position assists with insulation removal and installation, asbestos abatement, scaffolding, line lifts, fabrication, and general maintenance activities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform asbestos abatement on process piping in accordance with applicable regulations and site requirements.
• Erect and dismantle non-engineered Systems Scaffold.
• Construct crib stacks, including 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, and crow's foot configurations, based on the Lift Form.
• Assist with temporary support structures used for line lifting and designated rest points.
• Assist CUI Specialists with line lifts using airbags, lift jacks, rigging, and cranes in accordance with the Engineered Lift Form.
• Perform insulation removal and installation as directed.
• Assist with coating installation on DOT‑regulated process piping when qualified and authorized.
• Maintain Operator Qualification (OQ) certification when required for the assigned area and position.
• Develop proficiency in the operation of standard shop equipment.
• Build skills in sheet metal and insulation fabrication, including T's, unequal T's, miters, gores, reducers, end caps, flange cans, mailbox fittings, wall flashing, and other related components.
• Work closely with CUI Specialists, Scaffold/Line Lift Technicians, and other crew members to ensure efficient completion of assigned work.
• Follow all company, client, State, and Federal safety requirements.
• Actively participate in safety programs, Task Risk Assessments (TRA), JSAs, and other required safety activities.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the CUI Support Lead or Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of NSTC (North Slope Training Cooperative) training.
• Valid driver's license.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Asbestos Abatement Certification through the State of Alaska.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience erecting and dismantling Systems Scaffold.
• Minimum of 2 years of practical experience using hand and power tools.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a physically demanding job.
• Ability to work in a remote industrial environment on a rotational North Slope schedule.
• Ability to perform job duties while wearing a half‑face or full‑face respirator.
• Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 1 year of Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Previous experience with insulation, scaffolding, line lifting, industrial maintenance, or related field activities.
• Operator Qualification (OQ) certification applicable to the assigned work area.
• Experience with sheet metal or insulation fabrication.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to actively listen, follow directions, and provide clear feedback.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
