JLL is hiring an Instrumentation and Process Calibration Technician in Bloomington, IN. You will calibrate instrumentation, troubleshoot process controls, and maintain regulatory compliance in campus facilities and process equipment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or related field.
  • Hands-on calibration experience in instrumentation and control systems.
  • Familiarity with building management and maintenance systems (BMS/CMMS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with building automation systems, process controls, and measuring instruments.
  • Calibrate flow meters, pressure gauges, temperature sensors, and testing equipment.
  • Use BMS/CMMS for daily work and data management following GMP/industry practices.
  • Calibrate HVAC sensors, water/steam/gas systems, and production equipment as needed.
  • Create calibration records and support scheduling and vendor coordination.

Position Summary

The Instrumentation and Process Calibration Technician calibrate, maintains, and troubleshoots instrumentation and control systems in campus facilities and process equipment. This role ensures all systems work properly and safely while following standard procedures and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment MaintenanceTroubleshoot and diagnose problems with building automation systems, process controls, and measuring instruments. Calibrate instruments like flow meters, pressure gauges, temperature sensors, and testing equipment. Adjust control systems to maintain proper environmental conditions and energy efficiency.

Calibration WorkCalibrate temperature sensors, pressure devices, flow meters, pH meters, and gas analysis equipment using certified standards. Check accuracy and adjust analytical balances, testing instruments, particle counters, and environmental monitors. Use calibration tools like analytical weights, temperature calibrators, and multi-purpose process calibrators to meet accuracy requirements.

System OperationsUse building management systems (BMS) and computerized maintenance systems (CMMS) for daily work and data management following good manufacturing procedures.

Specialized Equipment CalibrationCalibrate water systems, steam systems, and gas/air systems. Calibrate HVAC pressure sensors, environmental chamber instruments, and production line equipment including weight checks and flow measurements.

Record KeepingCreate calibration records showing before and after conditions and accuracy measurements. Maintain calibration databases and follow validation requirements. Complete work according to FDA and other regulatory guidelines including electronic record requirements. Help develop calibration procedures and schedules based on equipment performance.

Planning SupportHelp develop calibration schedules based on equipment importance and regulatory needs. Review calibration data to recommend schedule changes and equipment improvements. Coordinate work schedules to minimize production disruption while meeting compliance deadlines. Work with outside vendors for specialized calibration services.

Training and LeadershipLearn and share knowledge about calibration techniques and troubleshooting methods. Demonstrate reliability while managing multiple tasks effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

EducationAssociate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or related experience in industry.

Experience Minimum two years of hands-on experience with instrumentation and calibration, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology facilities. Other industry experience may apply.

Technical SkillsKnowledge of calibration standards and procedures for analytical and process instruments. Experience with calibration software and diagnostic tools including Fluke equipment and CMMS systems. Understanding of process control basics and control system adjustments.

Industry Knowledge Basic knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements. Familiarity with Building Management Systems such as Siemens, DeltaV, Honeywell, and Allen Bradley.

CertificationsTechnical certifications in instrumentation or calibration preferred. Experience applying manufacturing quality principles in instrumentation work.

Professional SkillsGood customer service skills and ability to interact with clients. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently with general supervision while staying focused and productive.

Required Qualifications

Technical SkillsAbility to read technical drawings, process diagrams, and instrument specifications. Good problem-solving skills for technical issues. Proficiency in basic computer applications including MS Office, Outlook, and maintenance systems.

Physical RequirementsValid driver's license required. Ability to work in clean room manufacturing environments, including compliance with gowning protocols. Capability to perform and supervise overhead work and operations at elevated heights. Physical capacity to operate electric hand tools, work from ladders, transport equipment, and lift materials up to 50 pounds.

Work EnvironmentFlexibility to work in diverse environmental conditions, including outdoor assignments in various weather conditions. Availability for on-call responsibilities as operational needs require.
