US - Project Instrumentation Engineer(Expert) (Contract)

Job Summary

This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide critical instrumentation expertise for complex industrial projects within a dynamic manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Site Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of instrumentation systems, from conceptual design through commissioning and startup. Your work will encompass Safety Instrumented System design and specification, detailed engineering documentation, cost estimation, equipment procurement, and system troubleshooting. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, project management capabilities, and hands‑on field engineering to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, manage multiple concurrent tasks, and play a key role in functional safety initiatives and process hazard analysis efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple concurrent tasks to ensure timely and budget‑compliant project completion with high client satisfaction.
  • Communicate project status, issues, and updates to project managers, clients, and company management.
  • Oversee and prepare instrumentation designs and work plans from conceptual design through detailed design packages.
  • Perform instrument selection, valve specification, cable selection, and wire/cable sizing.
  • Develop and update instrument specification sheets, loop sheets, connection diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Create cable schedules, instrument indices, equipment lists, and material takeoffs.
  • Prepare requests for bids and construction specifications for subcontractors and material vendors.
  • Compare bids and recommend selection of subcontractors and material vendors.
  • Conduct field walks to assess DCS connections, existing instruments, control schemes, and facility constraints.
  • Collaborate with site DCS team to implement control system changes for assigned projects.
  • Work with Functional Safety Project Manager to prioritize and implement projects supporting migration and PHA efforts.
  • Provide technical basis for instrument and valve utilization based on functional safety procedures.
  • Perform field engineering duties including hands‑on fieldwork and supervision of subcontractors.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control inspections to ensure construction compliance with design specifications.
  • Coordinate work quality and safety concerns with construction coordinators and project managers.
  • Assist with equipment commissioning, startup, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Apply engineering discipline and experience to resolve project issues during installation.
  • Locate project drawings and provide initial markups for drafting incorporation.
  • Work with various voltage levels including 24 VDC, 120 VAC, and 480 VAC.
  • Work with instrumentation systems including 4‑20 mA, 0‑5 VDC, and 0‑10 VDC signal types.
