We are seeking a proactive and field-oriented Instrumentation & Controls Engineer I to support midstream pipeline operations, facility maintenance, and small-to-midsize capital projects at our Baton Rouge location.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between engineering design and practical field implementation. You will split your time between technical office coordination and hands‑on site support—evaluating contractor deliverables, troubleshooting field automation equipment, updating logic, and overseeing system enhancements across local pipeline assets.
Automation & Logic Development: Perform hands‑on programming, valve and logic updates, troubleshooting, and commissioning on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
Field Execution & Support: Spend up to 50% of your time in the field troubleshooting instrumentation, verifying wiring and field equipment, supporting operations, and managing small‑project execution.
Design & Contractor Review: Evaluate, review, and comment on engineering work products, design drawings (P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring schematics), and documentation generated by EPCs, contractors, and vendors to ensure strict alignment with facility specifications and industry codes.
Compliance & Deviation Management: Identify and assess deviations from Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements; maintain and steward the Deviation Control Log.
Technical Interface & RFI Stewarding: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for discipline engineering queries (RFIs) between internal operations, safety teams, project leads, and third‑party contractors.
Capital Efficiency & Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve safety, operational reliability, and capital efficiency across pipeline automation and electrical systems.
Experience: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience within industrial facilities, pipeline networks, petrochemical, refining, or related operating environments.
Technical Competency:
Hands‑on proficiency with PLC systems (Ladder Logic).
Direct experience reading, marking up, and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop drawings, and control narratives.
Demonstrated background in field equipment troubleshooting, calibration, and commissioning.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, or equivalent practical industry experience.
Mobility: Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel up to 50% locally (within a ~1-hour radius of Baton Rouge).
Availability: Ability to participate in occasional after-hours on-call rotations as operational needs dictate.
Preferred Technical Systems & Skills:
Automation Software & Hardware: Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms, RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View (HMI).
Pipeline Instrumentation & Measurement: Direct exposure to Flow‑X or OMNI flow computers, control valves, and pressure/temperature transmitters.
Power & Protection: Working familiarity with GE Multilin motor/feeder protection relays and basic 480V/low‑voltage distribution systems.
Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings with contractors, cross‑functional engineering teams, and field technicians.
