Job summary

Engtal in Austin is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to take ownership of I&C systems as the company scales from engineering into deployment. This role is hands-on and architectural, not just drafting or coding.

You will oversee system architecture, instrumentation specification, and vendor management, coordinating FAT/SAT, commissioning, and field troubleshooting. The position offers growth into broader technical ownership for future deployments.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in controls, automation, I&C or systems integration.
• Experience designing or integrating control systems from the ground up.
• PLC experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley or similar platforms.
• Hands-on instrumentation across pressure, temperature, flow, level, position.
• Experience specifying/selecting instrumentation.
• Exposure to motors, MCCs, VFDs and industrial electrical systems.
• FAT, SAT, commissioning and field troubleshooting experience.
• Someone comfortable owning problems rather than passing them on.

Responsibilities

• Owns the system architecture and instrumentation specification.
• Manages vendors and integrators through project cycles.

Job description

I'm working with a fast-growing energy technology company in Austin that's looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to take real ownership of its I&C systems as it moves from engineering into deployment.

This isn't a role where you'll spend all day writing PLC code or reviewing drawings produced by somebody else.

They need an architect and a doer. Someone who can look at the complete controls system, understand how the instrumentation, PLCs, motors, VFDs, electrical hardware and communications fit together, and take responsibility for making it work.

You'll work across system architecture, instrumentation specification, vendor/integrator management, FAT/SAT, commissioning and hands‑on troubleshooting. External engineering firms will support delivery, but you'll become a key internal technical owner of the system.

Longer term, there's an opportunity to help shape how I&C is designed and delivered across future deployments.

What they're looking for:
