Job Summary:
The Instrument Technician will provide clinical support to the OR RN, Nurse Manager and Physicians by providing sterile fields and instruments for the operating room. Provide patient care to ensure the center’s objectives are achieved in an effective, timely and efficient manner.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate awareness of patients’ concerns and a willingness to address them.
- Avoid and prevent casual discussion of patient’s surgery among employees.
- Ensure patients’ safety and comfort.
- Pull supplies for surgical procedures when needed.
- Be prepared for all cases at the scheduled surgery times.
- Maintain sterile field during surgical procedures, as appropriate for training.
- Assist turning over room between cases.
- Clean and Restock Operating Room.
- Ordering and maintaining instruments as needed.
- Order supplies for surgery center.
- Assist with opening cases in Operating Room.
- Put supplies away when they are received to Center.
- Restock sterile supply closet daily.
- Check sterilized instruments for integrity.
- Clean autoclave monthly and change ultrasonic solution daily.
- Clean surgical instruments and wrap for sterilization.
- Sterilize instrument packs per protocol.
- Maintain daily implant log.
- Assist in acquiring and billing for surgical implants.
- Special order implants and products as needed.
- Assist in pre-op/PACU with cleaning and daily duties.
- Assist with linen distribution as needed.
- Assist with collection of sharps containers.
- Assist with handling of biohazardous waste.
- Answer incoming calls, take messages (pull corresponding patient chart as needed, transfer calls when appropriate.
- Initiate communication to the Nurse Manager and CEO in areas that require feedback, follow-up or need to be addressed.
- Ensure quality assurance standards are maintained.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.

- Ability to maintain confidential records, PHI.
- Proficient with EMR.
- Demonstrates competency for clinical skills as outlined in job responsibilities, maturity and tact in dealing with patients, clients, co-workers; ability to maintain a helpful and positive regard for patient and family.
Education and Experience:
- CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in Ambulatory Surgery setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
