As Instrument Specialist, you will coordinate the distribution of surgical equipment, instrumentation repairs and ordering, and vendor loaner set management. caregiver in this position works days Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Present recommendations to manager for approval and make arrangements with appropriate vendors for repairs.
  • Maintain all documentation of instrument types, serial numbers and vendor repairs.
  • Assess and allocate all activities around vendor loaner trays or sets.
  • Oversee and maintain transactions related to receiving/checking in and gathering/preparation for pickup of vendor loaners trays/sets.
  • Lead changes and manage instrumentation tray changes through labeling and rebuilding of surgical trays.
  • Receive, process, and place instrument and equipment orders on behalf of OR Nurse Managers, SPD Leadership and other clinical stakeholders to facilitate timely and accurate ordering of instrumentation.
  • Oversee the distribution, collection and preventive maintenance of crash "code" carts and impatient care equipment for reprocessing.
  • Monitor tray assembly process and instrument stock levels in pack room/assembly areas and make recommendations for purchase when levels are low.
  • Provide input into operational and capital budget preparation and coordinate capital equipment repairs and service contracts with leadership.
  • Make recommendations for equipment purchases and pay and reconcile invoices.
  • Receive, process and fulfill instrumentation requests from instrument depot.
  • Allocate instruments for repair, receive repaired instruments and distribute them to appropriate areas.
  • Attend and/or assist with departmental staff, management and committee meetings.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CSCST), Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT), Certified Surgical Technician (CST) or Certification Sterile Processing and Distribution Licensure in Sterile Processing
  • Proficiency with computer software applications (Excel, Word) and related sterile processing information systems
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and quality standards specific to sterile processing
  • Two years of experience in Sterile Processing, Operating Room, Inpatient and/or Outpatient Hospital Equipment or Surgical Technology
  • Ability to assemble instrument trays accurately and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Associate's Degree
  • Proficient in ERP Systems (ex. Oracle) or similar software applications
  • Experience with ordering, receiving, distributing and warehousing of all essential surgical, inpatient care equipment and supplies
Physical Requirements:
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform the basic functions of the job
  • Working under pressure and within time frames and must be detailed oriented
  • Working while standing, sitting, stooping and reaching for long periods of times
  • Lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a continual basis
  • Pushing, pulling and navigating carts weighing up to 200 pounds
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.88

Maximum hourly: $28.80
