Job summary

Cleveland Clinic is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to handle decontamination, sterilization, and case cart preparation in a fast-paced environment. You will assemble and label instruments, monitor PPE usage, and ensure quality and compliance with AAMI ST79 standards.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, Sterile Processing certification, and 2–5 years of central service experience. Military medical experience is considered a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Sterile Processing certification (CRCST/CSPDT/CFER/CER) required or equivalent.
  • Proficient with computerized instrument tracking systems.
  • Military healthcare experience will be considered.
  • Two to five years in central service/sterile processing preferred.
  • Completion of recognized training program in central service/sterile processing.
  • Basic computer skills required.

  • Assemble, wrap, and label instruments for case carts.
  • Perform case pull functions and equipment distribution.
  • Maintain PPE standards and adherence to AAMI ST79.
  • Recordkeeping for processing, sterilization, and quality assurance.
  • Provide in-service education and preceptor duties.

Job description

Sign-on bonus: up to $5,000.

A caregiver in this position will work days/evenings/nights/weekends between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm. For the first 90-days during new hire training period, a caregiver in this role will work 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments, equipment distribution and case cart management.
  • Perform case pull functions.
  • Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
  • Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
  • Assemble, wrap and label instruments.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
  • Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform recordkeeping functions, such as processing, sterilization and quality assurance.
  • Participate in in-service education.
  • Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
  • Perform preceptor duties and assist in educating non-certified technicians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER).
  • Proficient in using computerized instrument tracking systems.
  • Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas.
  • Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing.
  • Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $21.50

Maximum hourly: $29.50
