Job summary

System One is seeking an Instrument Engineer in Houston, TX for a direct-hire, onsite role. You will design, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and SIS within a chemical manufacturing environment while collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, and Safety teams.

Responsibilities include developing instrument specs, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control narratives; supporting installation, commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting; and leading SIS/SIL/SIF activities to ensure OSHA PSM

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, instrumentation, chemical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of instrumentation, controls, or automation experience in chemical/petrochemical/processing industries.
• Knowledge of SIS, SIL, SIF, alarm management, interlocks, and safety systems.
• Experience supporting plant operations and maintenance involving PLC and DCS systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation, control systems and SIS within a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, process safety and capital projects to ensure safe, reliable plant performance.
• Develop and update instrument specifications, datasheets, P&IDs, loop/interlock diagrams, and control narratives.
• Support installation, commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation equipment.
• Lead SIS, SIL, and SIF activities, supporting PHA/LOPA/incident investigations and OSHA PSM IEC 61511 compliance.
• Investigate instrumentation failures and implement corrective actions for alarms and interlocks.
• Support plant reliability initiatives and develop preventive/predictive maintenance strategies.
• Participate in capital/expense projects with design, equipment selection and vendor coordination.
• Serve as technical lead and mentor to I&E technicians during turnarounds and startups.
