Responsibilities include:
- Planning and conducting independent work involving judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying instrumentation and control techniques.
- Devising new approaches, preparing or modifying drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs, and ensuring work complies with codes, standards, and practices.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, floor plans, schedules, and manufacturer specifications related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and specialized equipment.
- Maintaining, testing, calibrating, repairing, modifying, replacing, and installing HVAC, chiller, and boiler control systems, including pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and digital controls.
- Responding to requests from architects, engineers, energy managers, and occupants regarding controls and metering systems.
- Assisting or performing work alongside other maintenance personnel such as HVAC mechanics, electricians, and central plant mechanics.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by management.
Essential Accountabilities
- Maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration equipment for existing and renovated facilities.
- Interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Designing, developing, installing, and maintaining control systems for engineering processes.
- Commissioning and validating control and mechanical systems.
- Working independently with guidance on complex issues.
- Collaborating with engineering staff and providing technical direction.
- Leading projects, producing reports, and coordinating technical work.
- Reviewing construction drawings, bid analyses, and ensuring standards are met.
Starting Hourly Pay Range: $25.25 - $35.46 (dependent on experience & qualifications)
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited vocational or technical school in Electronic, HVAC, or Electrical, or NICET certification with six years’ experience in building automation or controls. Work experience may substitute education.
Must meet driving eligibility requirements: valid U.S. driver’s license, at least 21 years old, three years driving experience, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency with programmable logic controls and control system components.
- Ability to calibrate analog transmitters and understand control sequences.
- Knowledge of trades mathematics, electronics, HVAC controls, and instrumentation design.
- Teamwork, analytical skills, and computer proficiency, including PLCs, DCSs, and electrical schematics.
- Understanding of ISA standards and communication protocols like TCP/IP and RS232.
- Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Work Schedule: 6:30 am - 3:30 pm with flexibility as needed.
