Job summary

Job description

Under the direction of the Dean and in collaboration with the Truck Driver Training Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and training in areas including CDL-B Truck Driver Trainer Orientation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Truck Maintenance, Load Securement, Hazardous Materials (HazMat), and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Tractor/Trailer Driver Training. In support of Lewis and Clark Community College's mission of empowering individuals through learning and community engagement, the instructor fosters a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success, workforce readiness, and lifelong learning. This position conducts instructional planning and design, advises students, and collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure training programs meet industry standards and workforce needs.

  • Teach safety and basic tractor/trailer driver training courses using effective instructional practices that support diverse learning needs and student success.
  • Monitor training experiences and outcomes to ensure quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Research, develop, and enhance instructional materials, curriculum, and training design to align with industry standards and workforce demands.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with employers, advisory committee members, industry partners, and other stakeholders to ensure curriculum relevance and responsiveness to labor market needs.
  • Assess specialized training and workforce development needs; analyze job market trends to identify employment opportunities and support program growth and enhancement.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of training delivery and instructional design budgets.
  • Support the preparation of cost analyses for training projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain truck driver training student manuals and instructional resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of transportation industry regulations, training methodologies, certifications, and emerging trends.
  • Assist in the preparation, coordination, and submission of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain and enhance professional expertise, instructional effectiveness, and industry knowledge.
  • Contribute to a culture of respect, inclusion, collaboration, and continuous improvement consistent with the College's mission, vision, and core values.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of truck driving experience required.
  • Experience providing transportation safety training required.
  • Valid Illinois CDL Class B license with full endorsements, including air brake certification, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, colleagues, employers, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that supports the success of all learners.
  • Associate's degree in Business or a related field.
  • Valid Illinois CDL Class A License with full endorsements, including air brake certification.
  • Technical training related to truck driving and transportation operations.
  • Truck driver business and maintenance experience.

Team Members can expect to be paid an hourly rate of $23.26.
