Job summary

Rock Valley College is seeking a part-time Truck Driver Training Instructor to prepare students for the class A CDL examination and entry-level trucking roles. You will lead both classroom instruction and hands-on truck training, covering permits, logbooks, trip planning, and behind-the-wheel techniques.

You will maintain student records to ICCB and Secretary of State standards, oversee program equipment and supplies, evaluate students, and assist with equipment maintenance in emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; CDL-A license and DOT medical certificate mandatory.
  • Over-the-road driving experience with a clean driving record is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years driving experience; teaching/training experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach classroom portion of Truck Driver Training including permits, logbooks, and trip planning.
  • Teach hands-on portion including backing, shifting, and behind-the-wheel training.
  • Maintain student files per ICCB and IL Secretary of State standards.
  • Maintain Truck Driver Training Program equipment and monitor inventory of supplies.
  • Evaluate and grade students throughout the program.
  • Provide equipment maintenance in emergencies and be available on-call as enrollment requires.

Job Summary

Provide a variety of teaching/learning activities that prepare students for the class A-commercial driver's license (CDL) examination and an entry-level position in the trucking industry.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Teach the classroom portion of the Truck Driver Training Program, including permits, logbooks, and trip planning.

  • Teach hands‑on portion of the Truck Driver Training Program, including backing, shifting, and behind‑the‑wheel training.

  • Maintain student files in compliance with ICCB and IL Secretary of State standards.

  • Maintain Truck Driver Training Program equipment.

  • Monitor inventory of training supplies.

  • Evaluate and grade students throughout the program.

  • Provide maintenance on equipment in emergency situations.

  • Able to work on‑call bases if the enrollment requires.

  • Regular attendance is expected.

  • Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Possess a class CDL-A driver's license and a current Department of Transportation medical certificate. Over-the-road experience, clean driving record, and \"a minimum of 5 years\". Some training experience is a plus.
