Job summary

Langara College invites applications for an Instructor in Recreation Studies to teach RECR courses in Spring/Summer 2027. The position supports course preparation, delivery of lectures, online and in-person activities, and student assessment within a collaborative faculty team.

The successful candidate will bring a Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in a related field, at least five years in community recreation at a leadership level, and experience teaching adults; residency in BC is required for

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required; PhD preferred in Leisure Studies, Recreation, Leadership, Adult Education, Public Administration or related field.
• 5+ years in Community Recreation at a management level or above; full-time or equivalent.
• Preference for candidates with postsecondary teaching experience (online, mixed mode or classroom).
• Able to teach adult learners in recreation settings; BC residency required for Langara employees.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lecture material; design and deliver group/individual activities; grade assignments and exams.
• Use Brightspace, Zoom and other digital tools to deliver courses.
• Maintain weekly office hours on campus and online for student advising.
• Stay current in subject areas and foster collegial working relationships.
• Promote integration of students with organizations and communities where possible.
