Department Information
Department Specific Tasks And Responsibilities
  • Provides quality and technically relevant instruction in Pharmacy Technician best practices.
  • Provides continual feedback and various methods of assessment measurement by ensuring student mastery of the following learning outcomes:
  • Discusses history of medicine and role of the healthcare team
  • Reports patient history and care in medical record
  • Compares medical law, ethics, and bioethics and explain ethical behavior and professional liability for medical assistants
  • Describes guidelines for keeping client information private
  • Identifies levels of sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Identifies guidelines for patient scheduling and admissions procedures
  • Demonstrates proper filing procedures, medical records management, and professional oral and written communication
  • Applies daily financial practices, procedures to post patient charges, balance day sheets, and process credit balances
  • Identifies billing procedures, collection techniques, and apply medical office accounting practices
  • Explains role of medical assistant as a clinic and human resources manager
  • Operates electronic health records system to create patient charts, document chief complaints and vitals, create lab requisitions, and work with prescriptions according to office protocol
Protocol
  • Identifies and describes the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, blood and lymphatic, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems
  • Recognizes, defines, and describes anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and normal function in each body system
  • Describes standard precautions, infection control, and medical asepsis related to medical assistant
  • Obtains patient¿s blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, height, weight, and pulse oximetry measurements
  • Demonstrates methods, components, and sequences of the patient physical examination and procedures for applying sterile gloves, preparing instruments for sterilization, and setting up a sterile field
  • Administers a 12-lead electrocardiogram and describes importance of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the healthcare setting
  • Discusses reasons for performing laboratory testing and complete blood draw using vacuum tube system, butterfly, and capillary puncture
  • Performs specialty laboratory tests for blood glucose, cholesterol, and urinalysis
  • Calculates adult medication dosages using the proportional and formula methods and children¿s medication dosages according to kilogram of body weight
  • Identifies abbreviations and symbols used in calculating medication dosages and classifications, desired effects, side effects, and adverse reactions of medications
  • Describes the relationship between anatomy and physiology and effects of medications on the musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, endocrine, nervous, and reproductive systems
  • Reviews medication for appropriate disease-state management
  • Identifies the functions, food sources, United States recommended daily allowance (USRDA), and indications of deficiency for selected vitamins and minerals

Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides quality and technically relevant instruction of course curriculum
  • Teaches students learning strategies
  • Conducts teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, manipulatives, props, and other learning aids
  • Provides continual feedback and various methods of assessment measurement by ensuring student mastery of the following learning outcomes as addressed in the program's addendum
  • Assesses and records grading for all homework assignments, quizzes, and tests
  • Completes paperwork associated with classroom and project management
  • Participates in marketing of courses to prospective students by providing technical information regarding course content during biannual Open House events
  • Assists with course and/or program evaluation and continuous improvement and resolve quiz disputes when necessary
  • Maintains acceptable program quality and satisfaction scores
  • Keeps Program Manager informed of any curriculum or student code of conduct issues
  • Records attendance in learning management system
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Registered Nurse (RN) within the state of Georgia from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the state of Georgia from an accredited institution of higher education or CMA, RMA, or CCMA credentialed medical assistant
Other Required Qualifications
  • Current, valid and unrestricted license as a clinician in Georgia (See license and/or certification requirements under the minimum education required section)
Required Experience
  • Five (5) years of work experience working in the medical field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge in clinical procedures, lab tests, patient care, pharmacy math & calculations, and drug administration
  • Must be comfortable with teaching in classroom and on a distance learning platform
Abilities

  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
  • Able to motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process
  • Able to review syllabus and learning outcomes the first night of class

KNOWLEDGE
  • Be familiar with all emergency procedures posted in the classroom
  • Expert knowledge in human anatomy, medical office procedures, medical laws and ethics, medical terminology, medical office procedures, HIPAA, and EMR simulation software
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
