Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirements:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing ( BSN ) from a regionally accredited institution with agreement to enroll and complete an accredited MSN program within five years of hire.
In addition the candidate must meet the mandatory NCBON teaching requirement as outlined below:
"prior to or within the first three years of employment, have education in teaching and learning
principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation,
appropriate to faculty assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if the
employing organization is changed. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following:
(A) completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approved continuing education courses;
(B) completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
nine semester hours of graduate course work in adult learning and learning principles;
(D) national certification in nursing education; or
(E) documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at
least 45 contact hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approval shall include content
in the faculty role in the curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and
evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population, and expectations of
student and faculty performance.
Work Experience:
Required: A minimum of two years clinical nursing experience and a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
Skills:
Required: Excellent oral and written communication. Proficiency with commonly used computer software.
Preferred Qualifications
Education Requirements:
Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing ( MSN ) from a regionally accredited institution.
Work Experience:
Preferred: Post-secondary teaching experience. Strong medical-surgical background; long term care or geriatric experience.
Teaching assignments generally include classroom, lab, and clinical. Theory is delivered primarily in a face to face environment, but may have an online, or hybrid component. This individual will be expected to actively participate in course/curriculum planning and design, development of student learning outcomes and assessment, and team collaboration for program improvement.
Additionally, faculty is expected to serve on college committees, advise students, maintain office hours, and fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required.
