Job Description Summary
The Practical Nursing Program Lead instructor reports directly to the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing, and fulfills a primary role as program coordinator of the practical nursing program. With guidance from the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing, the PN program lead is responsible for ensuring the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of all instructional, clinical, lab and related activities in the practical nursing program.

Education Requirements:
Required: Master’s degree in Nursing ( MSN ) from a regionally accredited institution. Meet the following NCBON Rules regarding Full-Time Nursing Faculty:
Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have education in teaching and learning
principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation,
appropriate to faculty assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if the
employing organization is changed. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following:

Work Experience:
Preferred: Knowledge of the NC Concept Based Curriculum, experience planning, implementing, and evaluating classroom, lab, and clinical experiences. Certification in Nursing Education ( CNE ).
Duties include the following:
1. Assuming major responsibility for development, implementation, and evaluation of PN curricula following the N.C. statewide curriculum plan.
2. Work closely other nursing program faculty to provide collaborative learning experiences within the PN and ADN programs.
3. Providing instruction in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
4. Providing oversight of PN faculty in developing course outlines and content modules.
5. Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with the lead instructor position.
6. Approving textbook selections and submitting book orders to the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing. .
7. Evaluating practical nursing faculty and submitting findings to the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing.
8. Recommending matters affecting personnel, including appointments, promotions, salary increases, etc. to the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing.
9. Recruiting and scheduling part-time and clinical instructors for the practical nursing programs.
10. Working with practical nursing faculty in selecting and completing appropriate professional development activities, including recommendations for in-service training.
11. Assisting in the planning of budgetary needs of the nursing programs.
12. Participating in program evaluation, development, implementation of departmental policies and the annual departmental planning process.
13. Participating in college wide and program specific accreditation writing and compliance activities.
14. Assisting with ordering equipment and supplies.
15. Assisting with the inventory, maintenance, and procurement of instructional and lab equipment specific to the practical nursing programs.
16. Assisting in preparation of grant proposals.
17. Assisting the Director of Nursing and Allied Health in organizing Curriculum Advisory Committee meetings specific to the program.
18. Providing student instruction and advisement.
19. Promoting the nursing programs within the community.
20. Serving on departmental and campus-wide committees and fulfilling all assignments.
21. Ensuring that the program and curriculum offerings are in full compliance with the requirements of external agencies.
22. Working with nursing faculty, allied health admissions coordinator, and the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing to determine the requirements of admission and progression of students in the nursing programs.
23. Maintaining contractual agreements with practical nursing clinical agencies.
24. Actively participate in statewide ADN /PN Director’s group.
25. Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing and the VP of Academics.

Estimated Hours per Week 40 (A minimum of 30 of those to be worked on campus)
Salary $75,000 - $87,000 Based on the College’s salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience. (This range includes a relevant educational level through a Master's degree. A higher, relevant educational level may increase the range.)
