Required Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in physical education, kinesiology, exercise physiology, exercise and movement science, or closely related field (OR equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Experience: Teaching adults in fitness, physical education, or a closely related discipline
- Certification: Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification
- Conditions of Employment: Criminal background check required (infractions evaluated case‑by‑case); must work and reside in Oregon at the time of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: GFI credentials from accredited bodies such as ACE, NASM, AFAA; specialized training in group fitness (cardio kickboxing, zumba/dance cardio, yogilates, barre & body sculpt)
- Experience: Teaching in a community college setting; teaching adults in a group fitness setting
Position Purpose
Faculty are professional educators responsible for providing a quality learning experience for all Lane Community College students. The role delivers high‑quality instruction to students enrolled in college‑level physical education coursework.
Essential Functions
Support student learning through activities that include:- Compliance with College policies and procedures; accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
- Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
- Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
- Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations
- Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs
- Maintain student records, attendance, grades; ensure safe, quality classroom or lab
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality
Curriculum Delivery - Provide high‑quality classroom instruction
- Create, develop and revise course content and materials
- Establish learning outcomes; assess outcomes and use results for improvement
- Incorporate college values; promote respectful learning environment and multicultural awareness
- Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to students
- Confer with students on course materials
- Deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats
Online Teaching and Student Support - Engage within the online course environment to ensure regular and substantial interaction
- Monitor student progress and provide coaching to struggling students
- Review and grade student work; provide timely feedback
- Respond promptly to student inquiries
- Ensure materials meet Section 508 guidelines
- Use effective strategies for teaching online
Equity and Inclusion - Demonstrate social justice and inclusion skills; apply to all responsibilities
- Respectful and inclusive conduct regardless of identity
- Assist with ADA compliance with Human Resources and Disability Resource departments
- Demonstrate concern for students, staff, and the public
