Instructor Pool – 2025/2026 & Fall Term 2026: Writing

Applications will be considered throughout the 2025–2026 Academic Year and Fall Term 2026, as opportunities become available.

Position Summary

The Master’s in Fine Arts (MFA) Program at OSU – Cascades invites applications for fixed‑term, non‑tenure‑track instructor positions to teach on a term‑by‑term basis for the 2025‑2026 academic year and Fall Term 2026. The position may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional role at the discretion of the Dean. The instructor will teach on campus and remotely, focusing on Fiction Writing (Short & Long), Creative Non‑Fiction, Poetry & Poetics in graduate courses. Anticipated start dates: September 16, 2025; December 16 2025; March 16, 2026.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and teach course(s) each term in the disciplines: Fiction Writing (Short & Long), Creative Non‑Fiction.
  • Mentor students in thesis creation and production.
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Complete course assessment processes and continuously improve teaching effectiveness.
  • Serve on thesis committees, attend faculty meetings, participate in curriculum development, perform record‑keeping and minor administrative tasks.
What You Will Need
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least one book‑length publication by (or under contract with) a national press.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, teach and assess courses that support inclusive learning principles and promote equitable teaching practices.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • MFA or PhD in Creative Writing or PhD in English, American Studies, Liberal Studies (or a related field).
  • A strong commitment to and experience with local, regional, national, and/or transnational literary communities.
  • Ability to develop and teach creative writing seminars with a focus on racial/ethnic, gender/sexual, class‑based and other forms of difference.
  • Experience with publishing and/or advising student‑led literary publications.
  • Experience with online teaching formats (Zoom, etc.).
