Job summary

Schoolcraft College is seeking a Classroom Instructor in Sound Recording Technology to teach across all SRT courses and labs. The ideal candidate brings expert Pro Tools skills, deep studio signal flow knowledge, and experience with Dolby Atmos and immersive workflows.

You will lead hands‑on sessions on live instrument recording, MIDI sequencing, and post‑production tasks while guiding students from introductory to advanced levels in a university‑style lab environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required or bachelor’s with 5 years of professional experience and a relevant portfolio.
• Expert-level proficiency in Pro Tools, immersive audio workflows, and post‑production.
• Ability to teach across all Sound Recording Technology classes and labs.

Responsibilities

• Teach across all SRT classes and labs.
• Demonstrate Pro Tools expertise; Avid certification preferred.
• Instruct on critical listening, mixing, and mastering using diverse processors.
• Record live instruments in professional studio environments; mic selection and placement.
• Lead MIDI sequencing and virtual instruments; teach contemporary composition.
• Explain studio systems clearly and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.

Job Duties

We are looking for someone who can teach across all of the Sound Recording Technology (SRT) classes. The ideal candidate will have:

• Expert-level proficiency in Avid Pro Tools (Avid Certified Instructor preferred).
• Deep understanding of studio signal flow, including patch bays and routing in multi-room recording environments.
• Experience with Dolby Atmos, surround sound, and immersive audio workflows.
• Ability to teach critical listening, mixing, and mastering using a wide range of signal processors and effects.
• Hands‑on experience recording live instruments, including microphone selection, placement, and tracking in professional studio settings.
• Proficiency in MIDI sequencing, virtual instruments, and contemporary music composition.
• Functional keyboard skills and strong knowledge of music theory, harmony, and voice leading.
• Experience in post‑production audio, including ADR , Foley, sound design, and synchronization to picture.
• Familiarity with multiple DAWs (e.g., Logic Pro, FL Studio, Reason) and hybrid hardware/software workflows.
• Comfort teaching both introductory and advanced students in studio and lab environments.
• Ability to troubleshoot studio systems and explain technical concepts clearly.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Audio Production, Music Technology, Sound Recording, or a closely related field; OR, a bachelor’s degree in a related field & five (5) years of professional experience & a portfolio demonstrating music production/post-production work.
