The Health Professions and Public Service division at Waubonsee CommunityCollege is currently seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of HealthInformation Technology (HIT) with a commitment to teaching excellence,diversity, equity and holistic student success. This position is being designed to support a fully remote instructional schedule. The successful candidate may choose a 100% online schedule that meets the instructional load requirements for full-time faculty.
The Health Information Technology (HIT) faculty will deliver comprehensivecurriculum and instruction for a range of topics clinical classificationsystems, health care law, data management, reimbursement systems, datastatistics and analysis, health care information systems and other relatedcourses.
The full-time faculty member of HIT will be responsible for the curriculum,instruction, and student learning assessment for Associate in Applied Sciencedegree as well as a Certificate of Achievement. This program is accredited bythe Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and InformationManagement Education (CAHIIM), on recommendation of the American HealthInformation Management Association (AHIMA).
The program is based at the Downtown Aurora Campus and teaching assignmentsmay include days, evenings and/or weekends. Courses may be offered in variousdelivery modes, i.e. face-to-face, flex, online, synch-online, and hybrid. The successful candidate will have the option of teaching their schedule in any of the previously listed modalities, including fully remote. Thesuccessful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively useinstructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Duties and expectations of thisposition include, but are not limited to:
Designing syllabi, lessons,activities, assignments, and assessments that address the needs of a diversestudent population and ensure that students successfully meet program andcourse objectives and outcomes within a competency-based model (CBE).
Incorporating learning-centeredprinciples and concepts and motivating students to participate actively in allaspects of the educational experience, including advising, tutoring, and careerguidance, to promote student engagement, retention, and completion.
Monitor and evaluate studentprogress and performance to identify barriers and implement support.
Assisting the HIT Program Directorin the areas of CBE curriculum development, student success initiatives,student advising, adjunct faculty mentorship, assessment of student learning,support for student clubs and organizations.
Collaborating with team members andindustry (i.e. Advisory Committee and employer partners) to design andimplement the most effective HIT program that maintains standards, supportscertification readiness, and enhance workforce practices.
Participate in accreditation andprogram assessment to ensure ongoing compliance with CAHIIM standards andalignment with current industry expectations.
Working collaboratively withprofessional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community.
Modeling professionalism withexcellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, required
Registered Health InformationTechnician (RHIT) Certification
Two years of field work (whichequals 4000 hours for accreditation requirements)
Teaching experience or Industryexperience
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of post-secondary teachingexperience in Health Information Technology (HIT) or a related field.
Teaching experience at theVocational/Technical or Community College level highly preferred.
Experience incorporating technologyand multimedia applications into teaching and learning process and interest inall forms of alternative learning is highly desirable.
Interdisciplinary focus integratinginnovative learning strategies and the demonstrated ability to enhance thesuccess of diverse student populations is essential.
Experience teaching traditionallyunderserved populations.
Experience teaching online courses.

Compensation Range: 66,136.00 - 79,039.00 Placement on the salary schedule is dependent on qualifications. Qualifications include education and teaching experience. Displayed range does not include summer or overload hours.
Work Schedule: Fall and Spring semester
Work Hours: Classes may be offered during daytime, evening and weekend hours
