Qualifications

  • Completed an accredited residency in Pediatrics or combined Medicine-Pediatrics.
  • Board Certified or eligible in Pediatrics.
  • Active certification in PALS.
  • Active Colorado Medical License.
  • Active Colorado State DEA license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain 1.0 cFTE (clinical effort) and provide 1,376 clinical hours per year.
  • Care for acutely ill and injured pediatric patients in the CHCO COS ED.
  • Teach medical students, Family Practice residents, and other learners.
  • Provide supervision and support for Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Engage in Quality Improvement and development of Clinical Care Guidelines.
  • Keep skills current (PALS/ATLS/CME) and participate in mandatory trainings.

Job Summary:

Pediatric Instructors of Clinical Practice are Clinical Faculty atthe University of Colorado School of Medicine that will work in theChildren's Hospital Colorado - Colorado Springs EmergencyDepartment. In this role, they will provide medical care to acutelyill and injured pediatric patients. They will perform historytaking, physical examinations, define and execute appropriateworkup that leads to diagnosis with treatment and dispositionplan.

Key Responsibilities:
100% Clinical Effort
  • Expected to maintain 1.0 cFTE (clinical effort). ClinicalPractitioners at 1.0 cFTE will be expected to provide coverage for1,376 clinical hours per year. All clinical hours obligations arenegotiable with the Section Head at any time. This coverage willconsist of Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs location.Coverage will include:
    • Pediatric Emergency care
    • Pediatric Observation Unit medicine
    • Jeopardy shifts (an internal physician coverage system forunanticipated absence)
  • Practitioner must maintain active medical staff privileges at allChildren's Hospital of Colorado and Children's Hospital of Colorado- Colorado Springs Emergency Departments unless a site isspecifically excluded by mutual agreement of the practitioner andthe Section Head or Colorado Springs ED Medical Director.
  • Expected to attend at least 75% of the monthly joint section andColorado Springs administrative meetings.
  • Participate in Children's Hospital Colorado Main or ColoradoSprings or with anesthesiology one time per year to maintain airwayskills as well as other technical seminars as deemed by the sectionand/or practice site in conjunction with input from the medicaldirector.
  • Clinical teaching of Medical Students, Family Practice Residents,and other learners
  • Clinical Supervision and support for Advanced PracticeProviders
  • Participation in Quality Improvement and development of ClinicalCare Guidelines
  • Maintenance of skills required for provision of high quality,patient centered, safe urgent/emergent care of children. Annualrequirements include but may not be limited to:
    • One high fidelity code simulation at the Simulation Center atCHCO-COS
    • Maintenance of PALS certification
    • Maintenance of ATLS certification
    • Maintenance of CME relevant to clinical work
    • Attend other technical seminars as deemed mandatory by theSection Head or Colorado Springs ED Medical Director

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic MedicineDegree
  • Completed an accredited residency in Pediatrics or combinedMedicine-Pediatrics

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years' experience in pediatric acute care
  • Experience teaching medical students and residents
  • POCUS trained
  • Experience with pediatric patient population; pediatricemergency, critical care or urgent care exposure ideal

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for thisposition has been established as HIRING RANGE: 1.0 FTE at $189,000 to $250,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents theUniversity's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range ofpossible compensation at the time of posting. This position is noteligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
