Waubonsee Community College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Biology, with a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, and holistic student success, to deliver a broad range of courses within the Biology Department. Duties and expectations of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing course syllabi and designing lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments to address different learning styles and ensure students meet course objectives and outcomes. Incorporate learning-centered principles and concepts, and motivate students to actively participate in the educational experience.
- Providing leadership within the Biology Department through curriculum development, student success initiatives, mentoring adjunct faculty, student advising, assessment, student clubs and organizations, and college events and committees, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborating with colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community. An interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learning strategies and the ability to enhance the success of diverse student populations is essential. Model professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Teaching may include days, evenings, and weekends at four campuses—Sugar Grove, Aurora Downtown, Aurora Fox Valley, and Plano—and courses may be offered in face-to-face, online, and hybrid modes. The candidate should demonstrate effective use of instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Biology or a closely related field
- Two years of teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Biology
- Expertise in teaching Anatomy and Physiology or Microbiology
- Post-secondary teaching experience
- Experience with online and/or hybrid delivery
- Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning
- Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations
