Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a full-time Instructor in Applied Statistics and Business Analytics in the Collat School of Business. The position focuses on delivering high-quality instruction in applied statistics, business analytics, data mining, and AI applications in business.

The appointment is non-tenure track, teaching load is 4/4 (eight sections per year) with options for summer teaching, and includes opportunities to engage in curriculum

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in relevant field.
• Proven ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Ability to communicate analytical concepts clearly to business students.
• Experience developing analytics curricula.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied statistics, business analytics, data mining, and AI applications in business.
• Teach 8 sections combined in the fall and spring semesters (a 4/4, nine-month appointment), with opportunities for summer teaching.
• Use effective pedagogical approaches to translate analytical concepts into real-world business applications.
• Support and mentor undergraduate and graduate students pursuing analytics-related coursework and careers.
• Contribute to curriculum development and experiential learning, including projects connected to industry partners.
• Deliver courses in online and/or face-to-face formats using the Canvas Learning Management System.
• Participate in departmental and school service activities, promote department programs and participate in outreach events, including engagement with advisory board members and participation in career events.

The Department of Management, Information Systems, and Quantitative Methods (MISQ) in the Collat School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a full-time Instructor in Applied Statistics and Business Analytics, beginning Fall 2027. We seek an enthusiastic, student-focused educator who can deliver high-quality instruction in applied statistics, business analytics, data mining, and AI applications in business, while preparing students to succeed in a data-driven business environment.

This non-tenure-track position is centered on excellence in teaching, student engagement, and curriculum innovation, with opportunities to support and enhance the School’s growing analytics initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied statistics, business analytics, data mining, and AI applications in business

Minimum Qualifications

• Hold a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics, Business Analytics, Management Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a closely related field
• Demonstrate proficiency in face-to-face and online teaching for undergraduate and graduate students
• Show the ability to communicate analytical and statistical concepts clearly to business students
• Have prior experience in developing and implementing curricula related to business analytics
• Demonstrate proficiency with modern analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI)

Preferred Qualifications

• Have industry experience in analytics, applied statistics, or data-driven decision-making, particularly in a business environment
• Have prior college-level teaching experience
• Demonstrate proficiency with programming languages such as Python and R.
