Job summary

Southern Crescent Technical College invites applications for the position of Instructor, Medical Laboratory Technology Program Director. The role leads the MLT program, ensures NAACLS accreditation compliance, and teaches on-campus, laboratory, and online courses.

The candidate should hold a master’s degree (and ideally a doctorate) in relevant field, with clinical laboratory experience and leadership skills. Travel between campuses may be required, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current national certification such as MLS/MT/MLT through recognized certifying agency (ASCP/AMT or NAACLS equivalent).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in classroom teaching, clinical instruction, or clinical laboratory in areas such as clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, or blood banking.
  • Knowledge of contemporary clinical laboratory practices, laboratory safety standards, and quality assurance in line with CLIA.
  • Experience in teaching or clinical training/instruction.
  • Program administration or leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the MLT program.
  • Ensure full compliance with NAACLS accreditation standards.
  • Teach on-campus, laboratory, and online courses within the Medical Laboratory Technology program, including day and evening classes.
  • Prepare lesson plans for classroom, laboratory, and online instruction.
  • Develop and maintain course curriculum, syllabi, program goals, and learning objectives aligned with NAACLS competencies and industry standards.
  • Develop and manage program budgets, equipment, and resources.
  • Provide instruction in laboratory disciplines including clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, urinalysis, and blood banking.
  • Supervise students during campus laboratory activities and clinical education experiences.
  • Coordinate with clinical affiliates to facilitate student rotations.
  • Evaluate students’ progress in achieving course and program objectives.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials with safety/regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in accreditation activities, advisory meetings, and program improvement.
  • Attend professional development trainings and maintain certification.
  • Collaborate with internal and external healthcare stakeholders.

Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Applicants must hold a masters degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related laboratory science field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Applicants must also hold current national certification such as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through a recognized certifying agency such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or an equivalent certifying body recognized by NAACLS.
  • In accordance with NAACLS accreditation standards, applicants must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience of classroom teaching, clinical instruction, or clinical laboratory experience in areas such as clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, or blood banking.
  • Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of contemporary clinical laboratory practices, laboratory safety standards, and quality assurance procedures consistent with CLIA regulations and current professional standards.
  • Experience in teaching or clinical training/instruction.
  • Program administration or leadership experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • To meet preferred qualifications, applicants must hold, a Doctorate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, Health Sciences, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience in a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Science program.
  • Experience coordinating or supervising student clinical education in affiliated healthcare laboratories.
  • Experience with NAACLS accreditation standards, program assessment, and accreditation reporting processes.
  • Experience with clinical laboratory quality systems, regulatory compliance, and laboratory management.
  • Additional professional certifications in specialized laboratory areas such as microbiology, molecular diagnostics, hematology, or transfusion medicine
RESPONSIBILITIES
