Milwaukee Area Technical College seeks part-time faculty to teach Medical Coding courses online and in-person within the Healthcare Pathway. The role requires Wisconsin residency and availability for evenings or weekends as needed.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s or higher in HIM/HI, or an AS in HIT with 5+ years experience including supervisory roles, plus at least 2 years coding experience. Certification requirements include CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIT or RHIA.

Two (2) part-time vacancies. Up to 19 hours per week, hours vary based on departmental needs. Successful candidates must reside in the State of Wisconsin.
Under supervision of the Dean or designee, to teach classroom, online and applied courses in the Medical Coding Specialist Technical Diploma Program. Related duties include advising students, evaluating student achievement, developing strategies to enhance student achievement, developing and evaluating curriculum, evaluating program effectiveness, participating in divisional and departmental activities, formulating or assisting in formulating departmental policy and procedures, developing or assisting in development of a program budget, ordering supplies and equipment, maintaining equipment, and other duties as assigned. May be required to teach evenings or weekends.
Educational Requirements:
Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Health Information Management, Health Care Informatics, OR Associate's Degree AS in Health Information Technology, five (5) year (10,000 hours) of experience and training, including one (1) year of Supervision/Management in Health Information Management. {Per Higher Learning Commission Determining Qualified Faculty Assumed Practice B.2.}
Occupational Experience Requirement:
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience as a Medical Coder. In addition, one of the following must be met:
{One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time — per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS3 3.04}
This position supports the Healthcare Pathway and is available to start in immediately.
This is a part-time faculty pool position. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. Although this is an online course, selected candidate must perform work in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following:
Instructional delivery method used by this faculty position is defined as being an online course, whereby the course is delivered exclusively via a virtual modality using the Internet and accessed by the student(s) using a Web browser. The course instructor will need to attend in-person any required pathway, department & college-wide meetings (such as MATC Days, Non-Student Contact Days, Coordination Days) as directed by their supervisor. Successful candidates must reside in the State of Wisconsin.
The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.
As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
