Responsibilities

  • Teach, coordinate, or support hands-on undergraduate labs (structures & dynamics, materials, thermal-fluids, instrumentation, design).
  • Teach undergraduate mechanical engineering or engineering science courses as needed.
  • Develop, revise, and assess lab manuals, experiments, safety procedures, and project activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty directors, coordinators, staff, and machine shop supervisor to ensure safety and equipment readiness.
  • Mentor undergraduates in lab practice and工程 problem solving.
  • Contribute to ABET-related assessment and curriculum coordination.

Position Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the UniversityofMississippi (Ole Miss), Oxford, Mississippi, invites applicationsfor a full-time Instructor of Mechanical Engineering. Thisteaching-focused, non-tenure-track faculty appointment willstrengthen hands-on undergraduate instruction in mechanicalengineering laboratories and related engineering courses.

The successful candidate will teach and support hands-onundergraduate laboratories, including structures and dynamics,materials, thermal-fluids, instrumentation, design, or relatedmechanical engineering laboratory experiences. The Instructor willwork closely with faculty course coordinators, laboratory facultydirectors, department staff, and the machine shop supervisor tosupport safe, effective, well-maintained, and practice-orientedinstructional laboratories.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Teach, coordinate, or support hands-on undergraduate mechanicalengineering laboratories, with possible assignments in Structuresand Dynamics Lab, Materials Lab, Thermal-Fluids Lab,instrumentation, design, or related laboratory courses.
  • Teach undergraduate mechanical engineering or engineeringscience courses as assigned, based on departmental needs and thecandidate's expertise.
  • Develop, revise, and assess laboratory manuals, experiments,safety procedures, demonstrations, project-based activities, andcourse materials.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty laboratory directors, coursecoordinators, department staff, and the machine shop supervisor tosupport laboratory safety, equipment readiness, maintenancecoordination, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor undergraduate students in laboratory practice,engineering problem solving, professional conduct, and safe use ofequipment and facilities.
  • Contribute to ABET-related assessment, curriculum coordination,laboratory documentation, department service, and othercontinuous-improvement activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely relatedengineering field by the appointment start date.
  • Relevant laboratory, instructional, technical, or hands-onengineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to teach and supervisehands-on undergraduate engineering laboratory experiences.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability towork collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Commitment to safe, student-centered, inclusive, andprofessionally rigorous engineering education, as demonstratedthrough teaching, mentoring, laboratory, professional, or relatedexperience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely relatedengineering field.
  • Experience teaching, coordinating, or supporting undergraduatelaboratories in structures and dynamics, materials, thermal-fluidsciences, instrumentation, design, manufacturing, or relatedmechanical engineering areas.
  • Experience developing or modernizing laboratory experiments,safety documentation, assessment tools, lab manuals, orproject-based learning activities.
  • Experience working with machine shop, fabrication,instrumentation, testing, or mechanical systems in aninstructional, industrial, or applied engineering setting.
  • Evidence of student-centered teaching, undergraduate mentoring,course assessment, ABET-related documentation, or structuredcurriculum improvement.
