Job description

Instructor - Limited Term, Orthopedics - Spine Fellow

The Department of Orthopedics in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Instructor - Limited Term, who will serve as a board‑certified physician for its prestigious one‑year spine fellow position at the Wellstar MCG / Augusta University Health Sciences campus in Augusta, GA.

The fellow will work under the supervision of fellowship‑trained faculty with more than 30 years of surgical experience and gain useful insight in various components of spine care including but not limited to spine surgery post and pre‑care and spine research.

This is a non‑tenure track position limited to one fiscal year, starting August 1, 2026, and ending July 31, 2027, with the potential to extend to a second year for highly qualified candidates based on external funding.

Responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive experience in spinal problems with an emphasis on diagnostic techniques as well as surgical and non‑surgical treatment.
• Receive training on anterior approaches to the spine, minimally invasive techniques, motion‑preserving technology, and traditional methods of fusion, and be involved in resident instruction.

Required Qualifications

• M.D., D.O. or equivalent from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an accredited Orthopaedic Surgery residency
• Board certified/eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
• Licensed to practice as an M.D. or D.O. in the state of Georgia or eligible for a State of Georgia Medical License
• Evidence of teaching and scholarly activity as required for faculty employment at USG institutions
• Successful background check review prior to starting with Augusta University

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Position is full time (1.0 FTE) and works year‑round. Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, subject to availability of funds.
