Job summary

Dixie Tech in Utah seeks an HVACR Instructor to drive the success of the HVACR Technician program. You will deliver engaging lectures and hands‑on labs, develop curricula, and maintain industry‑relevant outcomes to prepare students for professional work.

You will collaborate with leadership to ensure safety, accreditation, and student placement; bring strong teaching, communication, and organizational skills to a dynamic classroom and shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of HVACR industry experience.
  • EPA 608 certification required.
  • RMGA certification or equivalent required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent; higher degrees preferred.
  • Teaching/training experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lectures and hands-on lab instruction; update curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plans.
  • Establish clear objectives and competencies for the program and learning activities.
  • Prepare classroom and lab for daily learning activities.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments promptly.
  • Structure courses in Canvas to support student learning.
  • Observe, evaluate, and document student performance; provide feedback and conduct reviews.
  • Manage student behavior and collaborate with Student Services as needed.
  • Ensure syllabus objectives align with program outcomes and Northstar records.
  • Update student data in Northstar and support placement and licensure goals.
  • Meet performance metrics set by leadership and maintain FERPA compliance.
  • Stay current with industry advancements and adjust curriculum accordingly.
  • Assist with admissions standards and collaborate with recruiters to fill cohorts.
  • Ensure safety standards per guidelines and COE accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate to document evidence for COE standards and attend OAC meetings.
  • Participate in budgeting and inventory management for instructional items.
  • Seek professional development and continuously improve teaching skills and technical knowledge.
  • Maintain inventory and coordinate with program director on needs.

Job description

Summary:

This full-time position holds responsibility for the success of the HVACR Technician program. This instructor must ensure that a positive, upbeat, diversified, interesting, and active learning environment occurs in both classrooms and labs, giving the students relevant and worthwhile experiences daily. The responsibilities include planning, organizing, and implementing an effective instructional training program in a professional learning environment that guides, encourages, and enables students to develop into industry professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging lectures and hands-on lab instruction. Develop and update curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plans to ensure industry-relevant, effective, and skills-based learning experiences and outcomes.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives and well-defined competencies for the program and all learning activities.
  • Ensure the classroom and lab are prepared for daily learning activities
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments in a timely manner
  • Structure classes in Canvas to support student learning
  • Observe, evaluate, and record students' performance and development, and provide appropriate and helpful feedback. Conduct and document student reviews with students on a regular basis. Involve Student Services when problems develop before they become critical
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing appropriate rules and procedures; involve Student Services when problems develop
  • Ensure objectives for all program students are reflected on each syllabus and match the module sign-offs in the Student Information System (Northstar)
  • Ensure that all student data is updated on a real-time basis in Northstar and that students are retained, complete, graduate, pass any relevant licensure exams, and find placements in related employment.
  • Meet or exceed performance metrics for the program established by the VP of Instruction
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality in all circumstances, especially concerning student information. Adhere to FERPA requirements and guidelines.
  • Stay up-to-date in industry advancements and adjust curriculum where appropriate to prepare students for current industry needs
  • Along with the department director and the VP of Instruction, develop and propose admissions standards to enhance student success. Assist recruiters and admissions to fill program cohorts
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with all College, City, County, State, and Federal guidelines
  • Model a professional environment for the students in the classroom and lab
  • Schedule industry professionals for specialized presentations and training where appropriate
  • Supervise, recruit, train, support, and assist adjunct instructors as needed
  • Be an active, positive, and participative member of the department team. Communicate effectively with program director and program instructors.
  • Help to develop a healthy network of industry partners and assist students in obtaining employment in their field of study
  • Actively ensure the program follows all guidelines and conditions necessary to meet the standards of COE accreditation, including completion of Employee Verification forms and maintaining records of contacts with industry partners
  • Actively participate in documenting, collecting, and placing Standard 2 criteria evidence following the guidelines sheet into the COE program folder biannually, meeting all deadlines.
  • Assist with biannual Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meetings and ensure accreditation compliance. Maintain communication with OAC. Take direction and implement decisions made by the committee
  • Participate with program team to ensure that program spending is within established budgets, and maintain inventory for all instructional items
  • Participate in approved professional development opportunities. Be open to feedback and seek to continuously improve teaching skills and technical knowledge related to program focus and content.
  • Maintain inventory for all instructional supplies and review program needs and budget with program director regularly
  • Collaborate with the program instructional team to develop, implement, and maintain curriculum maps and syllabi that align course content with program outcomes and industry standards while also meeting regulatory requirements
  • Design, coordinate, and assess any internal or external work-based learning activities that provide students with practical, hands-on experience relevant to their field of study. Make sure all such experiences are designed for student success and are correctly documented, overseen, and meet accreditation requirements
  • Ensure that students and staff are treated respectfully and equally without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, age (40 or over), national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related condition. Report all violations immediately to HR or Student Services

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience in industry required
  • Have EPA 608 certification
  • Have Rocky Mountain Gas Association (RMGA) certification or equivalent
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or Industry Recognized Certificate Program completion
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Teaching/training experience preferred
  • Contacts with local industry preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Suite applications
  • Strong communications and presentation skills
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
