Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM, to teach classroom and laboratory courses in Geosciences. Related duties may include curriculum development; maintenance of science laboratories; participation in grant-related activities; active participation in departmental, divisional, and MATC- and WTCS-wide activities to promote teaching and learning; and other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
• Manage the classroom/laboratory.
• Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation.
• Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
• Assess student performance.
• Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program/department area.
• Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
• Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC.
• Support student organizations and activities
• Develop relationships with business and industry.
• Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up.
• Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Requirement: Must have one of the following:

1. A minimum of a Master's degree in Geosciences, Geology, Earth Science or Physical Geography. - OR-
2. A minimum of a Master's degree in a related field such as Environmental Science with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Geosciences, Geology, Earth Science or Physical Geography. Ph.D. preferred.

2. Blackboard - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems
3. Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, and/or other classroom technology
4. Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g.. social networking applications)

Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the STEM Pathway and is available to start immediately.

Hours: This is a part-time faculty pool position. This is an \"applicant pool\" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. All work must be performed in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following:

• Instructional Modality: In-person, online, and/or hybrid
• Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes

Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.

Interview

As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
