Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide face-to-face, hands-on, and/or hybrid instruction to Drafting and Design Technology students on the Main Campus.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and project a professional attitude toward the students.
  • Prepare, organize, and deliver lectures, demonstrate and teach subject matter in the classroom, labs, and online/hybrid setting, and moderate classroom discussion.
  • Provide sufficient practice in Drafting and Design Technology to develop student skills.
  • Responsible for providing training in the competencies essential to success in the occupation including attitudes, job knowledge, and skills.
  • Teach courses in the approved curriculum according to the course descriptions in the College Catalog and Student Handbook, the syllabi, and the published schedule of classes, ensuring that students achieve the stated course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use strategies and skills necessary to support student learning, as well as prepare and deliver current and relevant course material in an engaging manner.
  • Establish a student and advisor relationship that provides guidance with regard to program choices and career possibilities and supports students’ educational growth through guided decision making.
  • Demonstrate and seek professional growth and improvement and exhibit appropriate work ethic (attendance, cooperation, etc.)
  • Support student enrollment and retention by participating in college events, student organizations, and assisting with other activities as assigned.
  • Support School of Business and Applied Technology assessment initiatives.
  • Submit required reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate grades and attendance records.
  • Organize classroom instruction and management.
  • Hold student hours weekly for assisting students.
  • Be available to students via email, phone, and/or in person.
  • Attend all commencement ceremonies.
  • Attend faculty and advisory committee meetings, Convocation, and other on-campus College events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Minimum of an associate degree in drafting
  • Must meet credential guidelines for the Southern Association of Colleges and School Council on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE)

Required Experience:

  • 5 years’ professional drafting experience in industry

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to adhere to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges (LCTC) policies and procedures
  • Ability to instruct students in the completion of relevant projects
  • Proficiency in using standard office equipment and networked computers; utilizing a variety of software such as the Internet and Microsoft Office; must effectively and appropriately use technology in the classroom
  • Ability to create a positive learning environment for students using innovative, effective, and diverse teaching methods to engage students in their learning and enhance student success.
  • Ability to use technology effectively and appropriately in the curriculum.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultures (including traditional, non-traditional, and international students) and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to ensure tests and other means of assessing the achievement of students are sufficiently accurate.
  • Ability to be a committed, motivated self-starter who can initiate and complete work with little supervision and/or as a part of a team on larger projects.
  • Promote technical and community college education.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations needed to complete job tasks.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in drafting, architecture, or related field

Preferred Experience:

  • 10 years’ professional, work-related experience in industry
  • 5 years’ teaching experience
