  • Prepares reports: attendance, end-of-term, grade reports, etc.
  • Advises students, assists with registration, and career readiness activities for cybersecurity students.
  • Completes student forms (withdrawals, registration, drop/add, credit by exam) and participates in program reviews/audit.
  • Maintains the CAE designation for the IT: Cybersecurity degree program and participates in outreach activities of Pitt Community College Cyber Center.
  • Participates in outreach through The Carolina Cyber Network and other initiatives; supports faculty and substitutes for absent instructors.

Under limited supervision, the Instructor for Cybersecurity will teach courses in the Computer Technologies department. This instructor will also participate in ongoing commitments to maintain the National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation for the IT: Cybersecurity degree program and in the outreach activities of the Pitt Community College Cyber Center. This is not a remote position.

What You’ll Do
  • Teaches assigned courses (day, evening, and online) in the Computer Technologies Department. Will be responsible for teaching 18-21 hours per week.
  • Performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties such as evaluating textbooks; preparing learning objectives, preparing lesson plans, course syllabi, handouts, tests, etc.; gathering resources for class; ordering and arranging audio-visual materials for class; conducting class; conducting critiques of students' work; grading assignments; maintaining files; etc.
  • Prepares and/or completes various reports and forms related to classes including attendance reports, end-of-semester reports, grade reports, etc.
  • Performs various student-related duties including advising students, assisting students with class registration, counseling students, assisting students with career and study skills, writing letters of recommendation, etc.
  • Completes various student forms such as withdrawals, registration, drop/add, and credit by examination.
  • Will be expected to participate in ongoing commitments to maintain the National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation for the IT: Cybersecurity degree program.
  • Will be expected to participate in ongoing outreach activities of the Pitt Community College Cyber Center, The Carolina Cyber Network, and pursue new outreach activities.
  • Will be expected to participate in ongoing career readiness opportunities for cybersecurity students and pursue additional career readiness opportunities.
  • Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within the Department and with all departments/divisions on campus.
  • Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required. Assists part-time instructors and substitutes for absent instructors as needed. Assists in program review/audit.

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of related industry experience.
  • Current Security+ certification

Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Cybersecurity or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience teaching cybersecurity topics.
  • Three or more years of related industry experience.
Additional Information
Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed in a classroom or laboratory setting equipped with standard instructional technology. The position involves frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff and includes the use of online instructional platforms. Occasional travel may be required for professional development, off-campus instruction, or college events.

  • Frequently sits for extended periods while performing administrative and instructional duties.
  • Regularly stands, walks, and moves between offices, classrooms, and campus locations.

  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves items such as instructional materials, office supplies, or equipment (generally up to 20-25 pounds).
  • May need to reach, bend, stoop, or kneel to access files, equipment, or classroom materials.
  • Visual ability to read documents, review data, and operate computer systems.
  • Ability to travel between campus locations or external sites as needed.
Normal Working Hours:

Full-Time, 9-MONTH faculty position. Teaching responsibilities may include daytime, evening, hybrid, and online classes as assigned to meet departmental needs. Office hours are required for student advising, course prep, committee participation, etc. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for outreach activities, program support or professional development.
