Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) at the Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, FL is seeking a vocational instructor to provide competency-based instruction to inmates in accordance with ACA standards and FDOC directives. Reports to the senior instructor and ensures safety and compliance.

You will develop objectives, assess progress, and adapt materials to help learners master required skills, while maintaining accountability and promoting positive social behavior among inmates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the vocation certified to teach or a high school diploma or equivalent with 3 years of experience in the vocation being taught.
• Florida secondary teaching certification issued by Florida Department of Education is required.
• A valid Florida driver's license with acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupation program areas taught to inmates.
• Develop performance objectives and tests in accordance with program content and include written and skill assessments.
• Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help inmates reach mastery of required competencies for entry, advancement and upgrading occupations.
• Plan activities to initiate budget requests to ensure equipment, supplies, and materials support a progressive training schedule.
• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in offender behavior.
• Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.
• Promote positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when needed.
• Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

Position Summary

Reports to the senior instructor. Responsible for providing vocational instruction to inmates in accordance with approved curricula. Provides inmates with basic direction in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives.

• Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement, and upgrading occupations.


• Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget request to assure that all equipment, supplies, and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule.


• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of offenders.


• Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.


• Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.


• Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in the vocation certified to teach, or high school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years' experience in the vocation being taught and valid secondary teaching certification issued by Florida Department of Education required. A Valid driver's license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
