Responsibilities

  • Teach 18-21 contact hours of Chemistry per week.

  • Ensure student learning outcomes are defined for all courses and align curriculum.
  • Design and implement instructional activities that maximize learning.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
  • Submit attendance and grades; maintain weekly office hours.
  • Support program updates and participate in committees and institutional initiatives.
  • Create a safe, well-organized teaching environment.
  • Provide quality service to students and colleagues.

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to teach Chemistry courses. Additional duties include holding student office hours, committee assignments, and other institutional service.

Essential Duties
  • Develop and teach 18-21 contact hours of Chemistry courses per week.
  • Teach courses in a variety of modalities (i.e. traditional, hybrid, and online) on either the Person or Caswell campus.
  • Keep up-to-date course syllabi and assist with new course development asneeded.
  • Ensureclearlydefinedstudentlearningoutcomesarepresentforallcourses;developcoursesandfacilitate learning activities around those learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate, meaningful, and maximize learning.
  • Assess student learning using methods that are appropriate for the course, and grade work submitted by students (assignments, papers, discussion forums, tests, quizzes, projects etc.) in a timely manner, providing substantive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Submit required college records (i.e. attendance, mid term grades, final grades, etc.).
  • Maintain weekly office hours for students and for planningpurposes.
  • Assist with program updates and revisions asneeded.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive classroom, one strongly conducive to studentlearning.
  • Participate in assigned institutional committees, ad-hoc committees, advisory boards, taskforces, and/or institutional initiatives.
  • Provide quality service to students and colleagues.
Additional Duties
  • Responsible for communicating availability with students in-person, via email, via telephone,etc.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in professional developmentactivities.
  • Other duties asassigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Completion of a Master’s degree in Chemistry or Master’s degree plus 18 graduate hours in Chemistry.

Licenses and Certificates:

Valid state driver's license.

Specialized Training:

Two years teaching experience preferred.

Physical Demands

This job requires frequent talking or hearing and standing; occasional walking, reaching with hands and arms, gripping, or feeling with hands; typing/repetitive movement, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and sitting. Frequently required to lift up to 10 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
