Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age; proof of high school graduate/GED equivalent required. Some college hours preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a state regulated childcare setting preferred.
  • Physically able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexible and able to adjust daily routine or work schedule based on the needs of the children and the center.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
  • Knowledge of Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers preferred.
  • Available occasional nights and weekends as required for scheduled meetings or trainings.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
  • Ability to meet/maintain all eligibility requirements required by Texas Health and Human Services to be employed in a child care operation, including maintaining required first aid and CPR certification.

197 days

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$23,723 – IP3 as approved by the Board of Trustees for the 2024-2025 School Year

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the implementation of daily activity plans and center events, including assisting the ELC instructor in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the instructor, including working with individual learners or small groups.
  • Support a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of young learners.
  • Utilize age‑appropriate strategies to manage the behavior of young learners in accordance with district and department policies and guidelines, as well as the Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
  • Assist children with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Actively supervise children in all programming areas and take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in creating a classroom environment that is warm and welcoming for children and parents.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, supporting the cleanliness of the center and sanitizing supplies.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, children, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork as assigned by the ELC Instructor and ELC Director.
  • Provide quality customer service to all children, parents, colleagues and visitors.
  • Serve as a positive role model for children and peers; support the mission and vision of the department and center.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills and meet the yearly training requirements as outlined in the Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
  • Comply with state, district, and department regulations and policies, pertaining to the role of an ELC employee.
  • Attend and participate in staff and department meetings, as required.
  • Assist in directing the work of substitutes, if assigned.
  • Perform any and all other duties deemed necessary by the ELC Director, the Assistant Director of Community Programs, or the Director of Community Programs.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent walking.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Environment: Work inside and outside, regular exposure to noise and the elements.
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
