Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is seeking qualified part-time faculty to teach American Sign Language interpretation courses in-person at MATC campuses and other sites. Duties include preparing and delivering instruction, curriculum development, and student advisement.

Eligibility includes EIPA 3.3+, BEI or WisRID licensure, and a teaching credential aligned with Wisconsin standards. Position is in the General Education Pathway, available Spring 2027, with starting wage for part-time

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in any subject area with preference in related fields such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies
• Minimum two years (4,000 hour) of work experience in the field of American Sign Language
• At least one of the following: recent ASL experience or two years of teaching ASL at post-secondary level in last five years
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) of 3.3 or higher
• BEI certification granted by ODHH
• WisRID with recommendation letter Licensure
• License - Preferred: Educational Interpreter License by DPI
• Standards of Teaching Excellence and MATC Career Essentials in instruction
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Google and email systems
• Experience with Blackboard Ultra and other online instruction tools
• Experience with online information management systems and emerging technologies

Responsibilities

• Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
• Manage the classroom/laboratory.
• Develop curriculum and monitor and revise course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
• Manage equipment, supplies and materials.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of the General Education Pathway, to develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Will require teaching courses in-person at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications

Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in any subject area with preference in related fields such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies

Per Higher Learning Commission Determining Qualified Faculty Assumed Practice B.2.

Minimum Occupational Experience:

• A minimum of two years (4,000 hour) of work experience in the field of American Sign Language.
• In addition at least ONE of the following must be met:
  • At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years OR
  • At least two years of teaching American Sign Language course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years

*{One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time - per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS3 3.04}

License or Vendor Certifications Requirements:

• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) of 3.3 or higher
• Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification granted by The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH)
• Wisconsin Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (WisRID) in combination with a letter of recommendation Licensure.
• License - Preferred: Educational Interpreter License as granted by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI)

• Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
• Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g.. social networking applications)

Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the General Education Pathway and is available to start in the Spring (2027) semester, approximately mid January.

Hours: This is a part-time faculty pool position.

This is an "applicant pool" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester.

Modality: IN PERSON ONLY

Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.
