Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in any subject area with preference in related fields such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies.
• Two years (4,000 hours) of work experience in American Sign Language.
• At least one of the following within last five years: one year of ASL teaching, or two years of ASL course work at post-secondary level.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of the General Education Pathway, to develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Will require teaching courses in-person at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.

Minimum Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in any subject area with preference in related fields such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies

Minimum Occupational Experience

A minimum of two years (4,000 hour) of work experience in the field of American Sign Language.

• In addition at least ONE of the following must be met:
  • At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years OR
  • At least two years of teaching American Sign Language course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years

*{One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time – per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS3 3.04}

License or Vendor Certifications Requirements

• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) of 3.3 or higher
• Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification granted by The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH)
• Wisconsin Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (WisRID) in combination with a letter of recommendation Licensure.
• License - Preferred: Educational Interpreter License as granted by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI)

Start Date

This position supports the General Education Pathway and is available to start in the Spring (2027) semester, approximately mid January.

Hours

This is a part-time faculty pool position.

This is an "applicant pool" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester.

Modality

Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary

The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.

Interview

As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
