Designlab is seeking an experienced AI practitioner to develop and teach a live, cohort-based course focused on AI workflows and agents for non-technical and semi-technical professionals.

You will shape the curriculum, develop examples and exercises, and teach live sessions to working professionals, helping students identify strong use cases and build end-to-end workflows with guardrails and human checkpoints.

About Designlab

Designlab is an online education company focused on helping professionals build practical, durable skills for a changing world of work. We’ve taught tens of thousands of students through live, cohort-based programs, including a growing portfolio of AI courses for designers and product professionals.

We’re now broadening our AI training beyond design-specific use cases, with new programs focused on how professionals can rethink their work with AI, build more capable workflows, and create agentic systems that are genuinely useful in practice.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced AI practitioner to help us develop and teach a new live, cohort-based course focused on AI workflows and agents for non-technical and semi-technical professionals.

We’re particularly interested in people who have gone beyond using AI as a better chatbot and are actively building systems that can pursue goals, work across multiple steps, use tools and information, make bounded decisions, and involve a human when judgment or approval is required.

Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who understands the work underneath the technology. A great instructor should be able to look at a messy real‑world process and determine where AI can create leverage, where human judgment matters, and when a simpler approach is better.

This is not a role for someone who simply follows the latest AI tools or demos what’s technically possible. We’re looking for a practitioner with strong judgment, real operating experience, and a clear, de‑hyped way of explaining complex ideas.

You’ll work closely with the Designlab team to shape the curriculum, develop examples and exercises, and teach live sessions.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with Designlab to shape the curriculum, learning objectives, exercises, and projects
• Teach live sessions to cohorts of working professionals
• Help students identify strong use cases for AI, automation, and agentic workflows
• Teach students how to build systems with the right context, tools, guardrails, and human checkpoints
• Help students troubleshoot, evaluate, and improve the workflows they build
• Keep course content current as the technology evolves
  

Areas of Expertise

You don’t need to be an expert in every tool in the AI ecosystem. We care much more about how you think and what you’ve actually built.

You should have meaningful hands‑on experience with several of the following:

• ChatGPT, Claude, or other frontier AI platforms
• Agentic and multi‑step AI workflows involving tool use and decision‑making
• Workflow platforms such as Zapier, Make, or n8n
• APIs, webhooks, connectors, MCP, or similar integrations
• Context design, reusable instructions, and knowledge sources
• Human‑in‑the‑loop systems, guardrails, evaluation, and reliability

Who We’re Looking For

You might be a strong fit if:

• You actively build useful AI‑powered or agentic workflows as part of your work
• You have a clear perspective on when agents are useful and when they add unnecessary complexity
• You’re a strong operator who can break down messy processes and identify where AI can create real leverage
• You understand both the capabilities and limitations of today’s AI systems
• You can explain technical concepts clearly to people who don’t consider themselves technical
• You have experience teaching, speaking, writing, or otherwise explaining your work to an audience
• Your communication style adds clarity rather than hype
• You’re curious and hands‑on enough to keep learning as the technology changes

Bonus Points

• You’ve taught workshops, courses, or corporate training
• You’ve built AI workflows used regularly by a team or organization
• You’ve helped non‑technical teams redesign how they work with AI
• You’re comfortable moving between no‑code tools and light technical implementation

Time Commitment & Compensation

This is a part‑time contract role.

The initial engagement will include working with the Designlab team to develop the course, create teaching materials and exercises, and prepare for launch. The course itself is expected to run live over approximately four weeks.

For comparable Designlab AI courses, rates have generally been in the range of:

• $150–200/hour for live instruction
• $90–120/hour for curriculum development, preparation, and course updates

The exact scope, estimated hours, and compensation will be agreed upon before the engagement begins based on experience and the amount of curriculum development required.

There may also be opportunities to teach future cohorts, workshops, or private team training.
