Job summary

Western Tech is seeking an Academic/Clinical Education Coordinator (ACCE) to bridge the PT/PTA program with clinical sites in El Paso, TX. The role entails planning, coordinating, and monitoring clinical education activities in collaboration with faculty and sites.

The ACCE will develop curriculum components, supervise student learning experiences, and assess student performance in alignment with program goals. Flexibility and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Current Texas PTA or PT licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical teaching and/or clinical coordination experience.

  • Proficient with word processing, e-mail, and databases.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The ACCE serves as a liaison between the physical therapy program and the clinical education site as part of his/her responsibilities. The ACCE, in cooperation with other academic faculty,establishes clinical education site and facility standards, selects, and evaluates clinical education sites, and facilitates the ongoing development of and communication with clinical education sites and clinical faculty.The ACCE holds a faculty (academic or clinical) appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. This individual demonstrates competence in clinical education, teaching, and curriculum development. In addition, the ACCE’s primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty. These activities include but are not limited to the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develops, monitors, and refines the clinical education component of the curriculum.
  • Facilitates quality learning experiences for students during clinical education.
  • Evaluates students' performance, in cooperation with otherfaculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.
  • Educates students and clinical and academic faculty about clinical education.
  • Selects clinical learning environments that demonstrate sound patient/client management characteristics, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice.
  • Maximizes available resources for the clinical education program.
  • Provides documentedrecords and assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.), and
  • Actively engaging core facultyclinical education planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduate of an accredited PTA or PT program with a min. of an AAS degree.
  • Current Texas PTA or PT licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical teaching and/or clinical coordination experience.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and advising skills, current knowledge, and skill with computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Prior teaching experience in a PTA/PT academic program or equivalent coursework.
  • Knowledge of education, management, and adult learning theories and principles.
  • Active in clinical practice, especially as applicable to clinical education.
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and legal insurance coverage on a personal vehicle.
  • Must have a personal cell phone to be used with the MFA.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Ability to read, listen, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Ability to evaluate objectively, fairly, and consistently.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties.
  • Ability and willingness to comply with school policies and procedures, and state and federal laws and regulations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the job holder will encounter.While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment may usually be quiet to moderate.
