Job summary

The Pioneer School in Chillicothe, OH, part of The Pioneer Center, seeks a full-time Instructor to plan and deliver individualized instruction for people with developmental disabilities, using person-centered approaches to build living, communication, social, and academic skills.

You will develop lesson plans, adapt materials, implement individualized service plans, and track progress with regular documentation, while coordinating with families, therapists, and other team members to ensure

Qualifications

  • Ability to design and deliver individualized instruction, including lesson planning, curriculum adaptation, and progress monitoring for children and/or adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Skills in communication and collaboration, including working effectively with individuals, families, interdisciplinary teams, and community partners.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate records, documentation, and reporting in compliance with agency standards and applicable regulations.
  • Capacity to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom or program environment that promotes dignity, self-worth, and age-appropriate activities.
  • Basic computer skills for using email, documentation systems, and educational or assistive technology tools.
  • Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in special education, education, human services, or a related field; appropriate licensure or certification is preferred when required by state or agency standards.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in special education, early intervention, or related services is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to meet physical and safety requirements of the role, follow agency policies, and participate in required training and professional development.

Company Description The Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities, also known as The Pioneer Center, is a public agency in Ross County, Ohio, dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Through community partnerships and quality services, the organization supports people and their families in making informed choices that enhance community participation and independence. Guided by person-centered planning, The Pioneer Center works closely with individuals to understand their needs and arrange appropriate, personalized supports. Services are designed to be respectful, age-appropriate, and provided as close to individuals’ homes and families as possible. The Pioneer Center has been serving children and adults with developmental disabilities in Ross County since its legislative creation in 1967.

Role Description The Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based at The Pioneer School in Chillicothe, OH. This role is responsible for planning and delivering instructional activities for individuals with developmental disabilities, using person-centered approaches that support functional living, communication, social, and academic skills. Daily tasks include developing lesson plans, adapting materials to individual needs, implementing individualized service or education plans, and tracking progress through documentation and reports. The Instructor collaborates with families, support staff, therapists, and other team members to coordinate services and ensure consistent, dignified support. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment, participating in team meetings and training, and contributing to continuous improvement of program quality.
