Job summary

The WOW Center in Miami is seeking a Program Instructor – Wellness to lead person-centered activities that promote physical, emotional, social, and overall well-being for adults with developmental disabilities.

You will adapt lessons for varied abilities, maintain documentation, and collaborate with staff to support each participant's growth, dignity, and independence in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience with individuals with developmental disabilities in classroom, community, or recreation settings.
  • Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to create structured, adaptive lesson plans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead person-centered programming to promote well-being.

About the Role

The Program Instructor – Wellness develops and leads engaging, person-centered programming that promotes the physical, emotional, social, and overall well-being of adults with developmental disabilities. Through structured lessons and hands-on activities focused on areas such as healthy living, movement, nutrition, self-care, emotional wellness, creative expression, and life skills, the Instructor helps individuals build confidence, develop healthy habits, and increase their independence. This role creates a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment, adapts activities to meet a variety of abilities and support needs, develops and tracks individualized goals, maintains required documentation, and collaborates with other WOW Center staff to support each individual’s growth, dignity, and quality of life.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a classroom, community, or recreational setting.
  • Bachelors’ degree in field related to the field of special education, psychology or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop creative, structured, and adaptive lesson plans.
  • Comfortable facilitating activities that include physical movement, arts, or life skills.
  • Proficient in documentation and basic computer use.
What You’ll Do
Health, Safety, and Record Keeping
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of individuals at all times, both on-site and during community outings.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation for each participant, in compliance with The WOW Center’s policies and state guidelines.
  • Monitor participant progress and behaviors, reporting any concerns to supervisory or clinical staff.
Program Delivery & Instruction
  • Create a positive, structured classroom environment that supports learning, social connections, and individual expression.
  • Plan and implement daily instructional activities across a variety of areas including life skills, creative arts, communication, wellness, personal development, and community integration.
  • Adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of individuals with varying support levels.
  • Facilitate activities that promote independence at home and in the community, such as cooking, budgeting, hygiene, and social skills.
  • Encourage active participation and engagement in a variety of enrichment experiences.
  • Support healthy living initiatives through wellness lessons, movement activities, and nutrition education.
Individual Goals
  • Develop Individual Program Plans (IPP) aligned with each participant’s personal goals, needs, and interests.
  • Track and document progress toward goals; maintain updated individual tracking sheets.
  • Collaborate with homeroom Instructors, occupational support, and clinical staff to monitor individual outcomes and adjust instructional strategies.
  • Participate in IPP meetings and interdisciplinary team planning.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Partner with other WOW Center staff to coordinate and support center-wide activities and special events.
  • Communicate regularly with social services and support staff regarding participant progress, engagement, and any issues observed in class.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, mission-driven team culture that promotes respect, collaboration, and continuous learning.
