Job summary

California State University, Chico is seeking an Instructional Support Technician II to support the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management in Plumas Hall. The role involves maintaining safe, efficient labs, training students and staff, and coordinating equipment and facility maintenance.

You will work with the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing, reporting on safety, operations, and project progress.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.
• OR Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
• OR Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
• Experience in an academic setting.
• Bachelor of Science in a job-related field.
• Knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations that pertain to proper use and disposal of hazardous materials including OSHA, Cal-EPA, Cal-OSHA, CSU/EHS procedures.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and conduct safety and operational training for students, faculty, and staff on manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Recommend, source, and purchase new equipment, tools, and materials; maintain records.
• Coordinate equipment and facility maintenance; train/supervise student assistants.
• Collaborate with the EHS office to ensure compliance with safety regulations, including hazardous materials handling.

Job/Department Summary

Working independently, under general direction of the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management, the Instructional Support Technician II provides comprehensive services to support the day-to-day operation of the college's manufacturing laboratories, machine shops, and technical facilities located in Plumas Hall. The Technician works closely with the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing and will provide regular updates on technical, functional, and safety operations of shop facilities, machinery, and specialty fabrication equipment, and students and class projects.

A primary responsibility includes overseeing and conducting comprehensive safety and operational training for students, faculty, and staff on all manufacturing equipment and manufacturing processes within the Plumas Hall labs. Additionally, the Technician recommends, sources, and purchases new equipment, tools, and materials; maintains records; coordinates equipment and facility maintenance; and trains/supervises student assistants. The Technician collaborates closely with the Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including hazardous materials management.

Required Education And Experience

• Understanding of applicable University infrastructure, policies, and procedures.

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm

CSU Classification Salary Range: $55,140 (Step 1) - $80,328 (Step 20) per year.
