Position: Print & Design Specialist (Instructional Support Paraprofessional) – School-Based Enterprise: SmartLab

Arlington High School is seeking a dependable and collaborative Print and Design Specialist

to support student learning and manage operations within the SmartLab, a hands-on, student-run design and digital fabrication studio. The SmartLab operates as a school-based enterprise offering graphic design, printing, and production services to the AHS community.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in design, digital media, or fabrication who enjoys mentoring students, managing creative workflows, and contributing to a vibrant educational environment. The role blends creativity, project management, technical support, and youth development in a collaborative setting.

The person in this role will work closely with students enrolled in the Marketing and Customer Experience course, supporting their learning and development in a hands-on workplace setting. Under the direction of the course instructor, the support personnel will help facilitate daily operations, promote professional skills, and ensure the SmartLab runs smoothly and safely. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with students and fostering real-world skill development in a creative, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a school or youth-based setting.
  • Strong background in printing or graphic design tools and processes, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all students.

Performance Responsibilities Work closely with the Marketing & Customer Experience course teacher and school administrators to align lab activities with curricular and school goals.

    • Mentor and support high school students/interns in completing real-world graphic design and digital production projects.
    • Guide students in the safe and effective use of equipment, including printers, vinyl cutters,, lamination, and digital design tools.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to fulfill printing and design requests while modeling client-centered communication and professionalism.
    • Manage the daily workflow of the SmartLab, including scheduling jobs, troubleshooting technical issues, and overseeing production timelines.
    • Maintain and organize the workspace, monitor supply inventory, and ensure equipment readiness.
    • Promote professional skills such as customer service, project planning, and quality assurance.
    • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and productive studio environment that encourages experimentation, iteration, and growth.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 183 Days Per Year (School Year), 7 hours per day

REPORTS TO: Principal and Building Administrators

SALARY/BENEFITS: In accordance with AEA Unit D Contract
