Job summary

Holy Ghost Catholic School in Houston, TX seeks a full-time Instructional Specialist to provide instructional coaching to teachers and intervene for struggling students in a one-on-one setting under the Principal's supervision.

Candidate should have certification in Reading Mastery, state elementary teaching certification, a Bachelor's in Elementary Education, and a Master's degree preferred. Experience with literacy interventions and staff development is essential.

Qualifications

  • Certification/licensing in Reading Mastery.
  • State certification as an Elementary Teacher.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Model enthusiasm, commitment and mastery of pedagogy.
  • Visit classrooms daily to support teachers.
  • Encourage teachers to create Academic Learning Time for every student.
  • Demonstrate strategies to improve learning.
  • Observe and solve literacy obstacles with teachers.
  • Be on call to support teachers with questions.
  • Organize and lead weekly staff development programs.
  • Monitor assessment processes and data analysis for reading performance.
  • Assist teachers with analysis of formative reading data and interventions.
  • Ensure communication with Leadership Team.
  • Facilitate weekly grade-level or team meetings.
  • Upgrade literacy knowledge and instructional skills.
  • Publish bi-monthly Literacy Newsletter to parents.
  • Monitor and ensure data is entered and current.

Holy Ghost Catholic School, Houston, TX

Reports To: Principal

Purpose: The full-time Instructional Specialist position was created for the purpose of providing integral instructional and coaching support to teachers. The position will be under the general supervision of the Principal, to provide intervention for struggling students needing assistance in an individual setting.

The Instructional Specialist is integral to the success of the process and implementation. This person must have demonstrated effective instructional skills for a number of years. In addition, this person must have/earn the trust of the other staff members in the building.

The following functions are critical to the success of this process and are the priorities, which guide the Instructional Specialist on a daily basis.

  • Model enthusiasm, commitment and intensity for mastery of pedagogy.
  • Visit classrooms on a daily basis to:
  • Encourage and support teachers in their efforts to create Academic Learning Time for every student
  • Demonstrate strategies teachers can be using to improve learning.
  • Observe and problem solve with teachers on how to overcome student literacy learning obstacles.
  • Be "on call" to support teachers with their questions and concerns
  • Organize and lead weekly staff development programs, which are needs based and focus on the accomplishment of the benchmarks.
  • Organize and monitor the assessment processes and data analysis used to determine student reading performance and instructional grouping.
  • Assist teachers with analysis and instructional use of student formative reading data and provide student intervention when needed.
  • Ensure effective communication with the other members of the Leadership Team
  • Facilitate weekly grade level or team meetings focusing on the accomplishment of the goals.
  • Continually upgrade his/her literacy and instructional knowledge and skills.
  • Facilitate the development and publication of a bi-monthly Literacy Newsletter to parents.
  • Monitor/ensure data is entered and current
Qualifications Profile & Education
  • Certification/License in Reading Mastery
  • State Certification as an Elementary Teacher
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred.
Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
