Job summary

Fargo Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Resources Training and Support Specialist at the District Office to provide training for IRLAs and manage the distribution of instructional resources.

This part-time .5 FTE, 10-month position reports to the Library and Instructional Resources Coordinator; requires a two-year technical degree and experience with library systems; duties include responding to inquiries, training staff, coordinating with IT, and handling materials.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two year technical degree or related experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to managers, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with the staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist library assistants, paras and teacher librarians with adding and deleting students and staff as needed from the library management system.
  • Troubleshoot, train, and support library staff on library management system patron database and circulation.
  • Coordinate with IT for processing, inventory, and repair records of audio-visual equipment in Filemaker Pro.
  • Facilitate library support staff training sessions in conjunction with Library Program Coordinator and appropriate Help Desk staff.
  • Receive in and send out requested materials, equipment, and supplies. Manage work orders and hauling requests.
  • Manage renewals of all periodicals for the district and route professional periodicals to those who have requested this service.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with supervisor, colleagues, principals, building librarians and teachers, vendors and delivery service personnel.
  • Support Cataloger, Instructional Materials Resource Assistant, and Library Program Coordinator with special projects.
  • Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.

Position Purpose:

The Instructional Resources Training and Support Specialist provides support and training for Instructional Resources Library Assistants (IRLAs) in their use of the integrated library software system. This position also manages the distribution of the district's shared instructional resources and equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to: Library and Instructional Resources Coordinator

Personal contact with students, staff, parents/guardians, faculty, and administrators is an essential part of the position and requires the ability to share information and must be sensitive to people and their needs. The position may handle confidential and private data.

Work involves differing situations and the ability to rapidly access and prioritize competing demands. It is important to identify the problem and resolve it promptly and tactfully.

Decision(s) Position Makes and Decision(s) Referred to Higher Authority: The incumbent performs tasks under the direction of the Library and Instructional Resources Coordinator and responds to day-to-day needs, answer questions, and responds to emergent issues. The incumbent takes the initiative to ensure completion of all tasks and will adjust priorities to accommodate competing workload demands.
