The Elementary Instructional Paraprofessional provides instructional, academic, behavioral, and supervisory support to students under the direction of certified teachers and school administration. The paraprofessional will work with students of varying ages, abilities, and educational needs in both general education and small-group settings.
The successful candidate will be dependable, flexible, student-centered, and able to independently follow an assigned daily schedule. This position requires a willingness to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Provide support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) within the general education classroom as directed by the supervising teacher and/or special education staff.
Assist students in accessing classroom instruction, completing assignments, following classroom routines, and developing greater independence.
Provide small-group and individual remediation, intervention, and skill practice under the direction of certified staff.
Reinforce previously taught academic concepts and skills using instructional strategies and materials provided by the teacher.
Work effectively with students of varying ages, academic levels, abilities, disabilities, and behavioral or developmental needs.
Follow student IEP accommodations, modifications, behavior plans, and other educational supports as directed by appropriate school personnel.
Independently follow an established daily schedule and transition appropriately between assigned duties, classrooms, and student groups.
Provide active supervision of students during arrival, breakfast and lunch periods, recess, transitions, dismissal, and other assigned times.
Promote appropriate student behavior and reinforce school and classroom expectations in a positive and consistent manner.
Assist teachers and staff with preparing instructional materials and completing other tasks related to student instruction as assigned.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, staff, parents, and members of the school community.
Work cooperatively as a member of the school team and demonstrate flexibility when schedules, student needs, or assignments change.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, IEPs, educational records, and all other school-related information.
Follow all district policies, school procedures, safety requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Participate in required training, professional development, and staff meetings as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Associate degree; OR
Minimum of 60 hours of college coursework; OR
Ability to successfully complete the Praxis ParaPro Assessment as required for the position.
Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, instructional, or similar setting is preferred but not required.
The employee must be able to actively supervise students in a variety of school environments, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria areas, playgrounds, and arrival and dismissal areas. Duties may require prolonged standing and walking, bending, stooping, and assisting with classroom or student needs as appropriate to the assignment.
The Instructional Paraprofessional is expected to serve as a positive role model for students and contribute to a safe, welcoming, respectful, and supportive school environment. The employee must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, teamwork, confidentiality, and a commitment to meeting the individual needs of students.
