South College Online seeks candidates for a full-time Instructional Designer position. Successful candidates should include a resume specifying course design and development experience; preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate successful experience designing courses for the online format. The position will work remotely and will report directly to the Director of Instructional Design. Highly competitive salary. The instructional designer will work collaboratively with faculty and colleagues to analyze instructional outcomes and provide expertise in the planning, development, and delivery of a high-quality learning experience for online students. They will supervise the process of creating master courses (Blueprints) for instructor-led courses in the Canvas LMS, identifying methodologies to be used to deliver content in an optimal and engaging way, and organize the content and flow of information for intuitive student consumption and faculty management.
The instructional designer will be expected to continuously analyze and apply trends in learning technologies and instructional design. They will assist faculty in developing measurable learning objectives, structure learning activities, and engaging presentations for online and lecture-based interactions.
The instructional designer must be able to write effective copy, instructional text, and audio and video scripts. They will be responsible for guiding faculty in effective assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course. The instructional designer will be responsible for planning and managing course development and design projects.
Additionally, the instructional designer is expected to quickly resolve Canvas LMS and vendor software integration classroom issues with faculty to minimize student impact and create the best experience possible for running courses. The instructional designer is expected to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. The ideal candidate should have a background in accessibility, usability, experience design, information design and
communications, as well as knowledge of instructional design models, strategies, and best practices. Candidates must demonstrate strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and exceptional project management skills.
The instructional designer position requires an understanding of the Canvas LMS and a basic knowledge of HTML, streaming audio and video, file types and formats, and experience with vendor software integration. Portfolios of completed work will receive preferential consideration.
