Job summary

North Central College seeks an Instructional Designer to partner with faculty and programs to design, develop, and improve high‑quality learning experiences across in-person, hybrid, and online modalities. The role focuses on aligning program outcomes with course outcomes, activities, and assessments, while supporting accessible design and faculty professional development.

The position emphasizes course templates, rubrics, and evidence collection, with a strong preference for Canvas experience

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and learning theories.
• Proficiency with outcomes, alignment, and rubrics.
• Ability to translate program goals into course-level outcomes and assessments.
• Experience building courses in a learning management system (Canvas preferred).
• Knowledge of accessible and inclusive digital learning practices.

Responsibilities

• Partner with faculty to design, develop, revise and evaluate courses.
• Apply backward design to align outcomes, activities and assessments.
• Build course components within the LMS, including rubrics and outcomes.
• Support mapping of program outcomes to course outcomes and assessments.
• Develop workflows for collecting and using evidence of outcomes.
• Assist with rubrics, authentic assessments and learner achievement metrics.
• Create templates, blueprints and guides for accessible course design.
• Review courses for quality, accessibility and engagement.
• Design and facilitate workshops on course design and Canvas use.
• Support ethical use of AI and emerging technologies in course development.
• Evaluate and pilot instructional technologies with campus partners.
• Manage multiple projects with timelines and documentation.
• Create faculty-facing documentation and tutorials.
