The role supports multiple delivery methods and ensures high-quality materials aligned with district guidelines, evaluating new tools and resources and supervising project teams as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or related field.
  • Two years of work experience in an academic setting.
  • One year of experience in an instructional design or academic design environment, with emphasis on an academic setting.

Responsibilities

Job description

Instructional Designer II - Central Campus

The primary emphasis of the Instructional Designer II position is on course development, instructional training development, and faculty training focused on the application of pedagogical practices and the integration of instructional technology tools. The Instructional Designer II serves as a project lead, instructional designer, and course developer on district-wide course and instructional training development teams. The Instructional Designer II supports faculty in the design of course materials for all delivery methods (face-to-face, hybrid, distance learning). This position supports faculty in the use and integration of technology including graphics, multimedia, and productivity software, web-based applications, and other emerging technologies. The Instructional Designer II evaluates courses (design, materials, and presentation) and provides feedback and recommendations for improvement.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Design and develop courses demonstrating knowledge and experience of instructional design, development, implementation, and assessments in an academic environment; instructional technology, learning theories, universal design for learning and accessibility practices, and effective assessment of programs.
  • Design, develop, and deliver instructional training, in various formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online and computer-based instruction) for instructional technology, course design, universal design for learning, and accessibility topics.
  • Design and develop interactive and multimedia instructional programs using the latest technology; including but not limited to software, hardware, web-based applications, social media tools, and other emerging technologies.
  • Leads district-wide course and training development teams serving as instructional designer, course developer, and project manager for the project.
  • Consult with faculty to incorporate instructional technology tools (graphics, multimedia, and productivity software; web-based applications, social media tools, and other emerging technologies) and open educational resources, based on an active, collaborative, and authentic instructional approach for all delivery methods (face-to-face, hybrid, distance learning).
  • Responsible for detailed project management to develop and deliver high quality developed courses and training in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Writing and editing course and training materials demonstrating effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
  • Review faculty developed courses providing recommendations and support for meeting district expectations for instructional delivery.
  • Evaluate, test, assess, and provide recommendations on emerging instructional technologies, practices, and technology enhancements.
  • Attend position applicable professional development to improve knowledge and skills.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Support faculty in the effective use of technology-mediated classrooms.
  • Participate on committees and councils as appropriate.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for continuous improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:
  • Master's degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or related education field
Required Experience:
  • Two years of work experience in an academic setting
  • One year of experience in an instructional design or academic design environment, with emphasis on an academic setting
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Blackboard Learning Management System platform is preferred.

Note: This position has opportunity for limited remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 116

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
