Job summary

Lubbock Christian University, located in Lubbock, TX, invites applications for an Instructional Designer (1-3) to develop and support online courses and specialized educational programs across departments.

The role collaborates with faculty to design blended, synchronous, and asynchronous learning, ensuring accessibility and compliance within the LMS and other digital resources. Strong emphasis on instructional design theory and project coordination.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or related field preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• Minimum of two (2) years of job-related experience; instructional design, course management system administration, information technology project management, and higher education or public-school teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implements instructional design policies for online course creation and delivery using digital tools.
• Meets with Instructional Technology staff and other academic areas to ensure timely completion of projects.
• Maintains compliance reports and data.
• Develops curriculum guides for courses using multiple formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies.
• Provides training and support to faculty and students.
• Collaborates with faculty on curriculum design and use of multimedia from inception to completion.
• Assists faculty in developing and revising courses to meet accessibility standards.
• Guides faculty to improve teaching methods and delivery technologies.
• Supports Digital Accessibility standards as defined by the ATO.

Functional Title: Instructional Designer (1-3)
Classification: Salary position – exempt
Division: Technological Advancement
Department: Distance Learning
Reports to: Academic Technology Officer

Primary Function: To provide instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of online courses and specialized educational programs.

Major Duties:

• Implements logistical, instructional, and pedagogical policies for the creation and delivery of online courses utilizing digital tools (multimedia recording, third-party applications, and LMS tools)
• Meets with Instructional Technology department members and other academic areas to ensure timely completion and delivery of instructional design projects
• Maintains and delivers compliance reports and data
• Assists in the development and implementation of curriculum guides for courses and/or program components and learning resources in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies
• Provides professional and technical support and training to faculty and students
• Collaborates with faculty on optimal design of curriculum, instruction, and effective use of multimedia from course inception to completion
• Assists faculty in developing and revising courses to meet compliance and accessibility standards
• Guides faculty in evaluating current teaching methods and tools in order to encourage improvements in teaching effectiveness, delivery technologies, and instructional materials
• Supports the university academic mission in meeting Digital Accessibility standards for content in the Learning Management System, associated repositories, and other digital resources as defined by the ATO
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Technology

• Skill in designing and developing blended, synchronous, and asynchronous learning
• Skill in utilizing appropriate electronic and other technological applications

• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships

• Skill in conducting training sessions of large and small groups of faculty, staff, and students

Education and Experience:

• Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or related field preferred
• Baccalaureate degree in a job-related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
• Minimum of two (2) years of job-related experience; instructional design, course management system administration, information technology project management, and higher education or public-school teaching experience preferred
• Demonstrated understanding of learning theories, scholarly research practices, and learning assessment
• Certification and experience with WCAG, DHS Digital Accessibility, IAAP paths, or equivalent preferred and required for advancement

Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:

• Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings
• Required to regularly sit and stand
• Frequently use wrist, hands, and fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail, and picking up small objects
• Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
• Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information
• Required to lift packages and/or other objects up to 50 pounds
